My guess is that, they are miles apart. Stafford's agent is making the asking price high, hoping to elicit a Penner like offer sheet from a team. Eventually when that fails, they will sign a short term deal around 2 million.

i'm thinking this singing won't happen until just before training camp.

Both sides are going to drag this out as long as possible. Stafford and his agent will want all the time they can to find a potential offer sheet, while Regier will let him stay out on the market and let his value continue to go down. I agree it will happen pretty much as late as possible before training camp, and Buffalo will probably end up winning out in these negotiations.
