"I don't give a (expletive deleted) if nobody likes me, I could care less," Clarke told TSN. "But they shouldn't be getting mad at me, I didn't put the (offer sheet) rule in the collective bargaining agreement. If they're mad, they should call Gary Bettman and complain to him. Get mad at Gary Bettman. He's in charge of the rules, not me. I didn't realize there were some rules we're not allowed to use."
Typical Clarke, always an A-hole... He's always belly-aching to the Philly media. It's grown old. I guess I'd be cranky if I'd been as unsuccessful over the years given the financial resources he's had available to try to win a cup !!!

I personally like Clarke and agree with what he says.Clarke manages the way he played,to win.
Clarke is a dumbass. He whines about losing Johnsson to Minnesota, yet doesn't seem to realize most of his team is made up of free agents (Forsberg, Hatcher, Rathje, Knuble, Umberger, etc.).
He wishes he had the same option to match Minnesota's offer to Johnsson? Buddy, there's a difference between a 30-year-old veteran and a 22-year-old sophomore. Maybe if you offered him the same contract you wouldn't need to "match" anything. This guy talks like he's missing a brain sometimes (always?).
I hope he keeps talking **** though and I'll enjoy listening to him whine even more when he loses a promising youngster to an offer sheet that he can't match.

Not that the Bruins would/could do it but id LOVE to see the B's or anyother team sign Pitkanan to a offer sheet...
I read somewhere that if he was signed for 4.99$ per it would cost 2 #1 picks
Hes not worth 4.99$ right now but im sure in 2-3 years he will be so its just a matter if a team thinks hes worth that minda $ a few years before his time
I always thought that it was an unwritten rule not to do this.
Sure its in the rule books, and he has the right to do it, but now
he has all the other GM's against him.
Don't know what kind of trades he'll be able to make now.

I would rather, see the Canucks match the offer sheet and turn around and trade Kesler to the Bruins.

I don't think this will get in the way of Clarke being able to make deals. After all as long as each team gets their apparent needs.

I usually think Clarke is a few beers short of a 12 pack (signing Hatcher and Rathje longterm and to big $$ last summer comes to mind). However, if K. Primeau's career is really over, Clarke needs to be proactive in getting some type of replacement at center, imo. Sort of a tough spot to be in as a GM.
I do agree with Whatsbruin in that Clarke may have hurt his chances of trading with some clubs.

I wouldnt want him at that kind of money...not yet anyways
He seems like he has alot of potentail but essentailly 2$per for 3 years is a big risk for a prospect in the cap world

But there was Sakic's offer sheet, Fedorov's, and the Whalers would have signed Wesley to an offer sheet if they hadn't already extended one to a different player - so they just made a trade instead.
With the old rules, a team was likely to match, so in effect the negotiating process between a player and team was circumvented by a 3rd party - which would rightfully lead to resentment. Especially because of the bizarre nuances like Sakic's being ridiculously frontloaded and Fedorov's having a Stanley Cup appearance bonus (am I remembering that correctly?).
Maybe that's where the "unwritten rule" originated from - but with the new economics, I have no problem with Clarke's move. If he's worth more to Philly than he is to Vancouver then so be it. That's how the CBA is written. I'm just glad we have Bergeron locked up.

He's been successful at winning the cup more recently than the B's.
I believe Bob Clarke has the IQ of a tulip. I also believe that he's making sense in this regard. Why have a CBA, if the letter of the law isn't applied?
