My favourite team (Fribourg Gottéron) of the first swiss league is looking for a defender... It will be probably a canadian or american, but also an european who is playing in NA could be possible...
Our GM told, he is discussing with 4-5 different players, do you have any idea who can fit for the swiss league? He has to be good in defense, having a good shot (a blueliner)...
Before showing any ****** players, please remember, the league isn't that bad.... Players like Daigle, Czerkawski, Balej, Gamache... signed with swiss teams....
Some interesting free agents would be...
Lawrence Nycholat of the Hershey Bears
Allan Rourke of the NY Islanders Organisation
Kent Huskins of the Portland Pirates/Anaheim Ducks
Jeff Jillson of the Rochester Americans/Buffalo Sabres
Aaron Johnson of the Syracuse Crunch/Columbus Blue jackets
Tomas Malec Binghampton/Ottawa Senators
Mark Wotton Hershey Bears/Washington Capitals
Bruno St. Jacques Portland Pirates/Anaheim Ducks
Ray DiLauro Cleveland Barons/San José Sharks
Prestin Ryan Manitoba Moose/Vancouver Canucks
Brad Ference Albany River Rats/New Jersey Devils
Zenith Komarniski Omaha....../Calgary Flames
Trevor Byrne Peoria Riverman/St. Louis Blues
David Printz Philadelphia Phantoms/Flyers
Kevin Bieksa Manitoba Moose/Vancouver Canucks
Louis Robitaille Hershey Bears/Washington Capitals
Mathieu Roy Hamilton Bulldogs/Edmonton Oilers
Jean-Francois Fortin Hershey Bears/Washington Capitals
Brad Fast Manchester Monarchs/Los Angeles Kings
less interesting, but Free Agents:
Andy Schneider Wilkes barre/Pittsburgh Penguins
Richard Seeley Manchester Monarchs/Los Angeles Kings
Ryan Caldwell Bridgeport Sound Tigers/NY Islanders
Todd Rohloff Springfield Falcons/Phoenix Coyotes
Brian Sipotz Chicago Wolves/Atlanta Trashers
Matt deMarchi Albany River Rats/New Jersey Devils
Drew Fata Wilkes-Barre/Pittsburgh Penguins
Chris Hajt Lowell Lock Monsters/Carolina Hurricanes
Alain Nasreddine Wilkes-Barre/Pittsburgh Penguins
Stephen Wood Philadelphia Phantoms/Flyers

Dale Purinton Hartford Wolf Pack/New York Rangers
Steve Lingren Milwaukee Admirals/Nashville Predators
Jason Doig Manitoba Moose/Vancouver Canucks
Milan Jurcina Providence/Boston Bruins
Sean Brown Albany River Rats/New Jersey Devils
....
Some of those guys are under contract or good prospects, so it's unlikely you will get a Hale, Jurcina or a Bieksa. More likely you will get one of:
Kent Huskins
Mark Wotton
Ray DiLauro
Brad Ference
Zenith Komarniski
Jean-Francois Fortin
Brad Fast
Richard Seeley
Todd Rohloff
Chris Hajt
For example, Byrne (today), Nycholat and Robitaille (playing forward now) are signed to two-way contracts with the Washington Capitals/Hershey Bears.
.
In my sources, Robitaille is still UFA and Nycholat has the status VI

As a Caps fan who follows things closely, I can tell you both signed two year contracts last year, but the Caps never disclosed that they were two year contracts at the time. Robiaille's was his entry level contract which based on his age was for two years per the CBA. You can check the nhl.com site and the Caps list of players to see that they are still Caps organizational players for extra confirmation, but believe me they are not UFAs like that list states (I know the list, while it was quite an effort for that person to pull together it is not completely accurate).
In terms of d-men that the Caps have rights to but are unsigned, Boumedienne and Cutta are the two most likely to play in Europe. Boumedienne was signed by Sodertalje to a two-year deal, but I believe he is not being held to the second year because the team was relegated. I am not sure if he signed with another Swedish team. Cutta was qualified by the Caps but chose to decline the offer (as happened with Boumedienne last season). Right now, they are UFA in Europe (unless they have signed with a European team) and the Caps have their NHL rights. Regarding other Caps/Bears d-men from last season, Fortin, UFA, I mentioned in my earlier post was rumored to have signed in Germany. Wotton is rumored to be signing with the Isles/Bridgeport, but nothing official to date. Wilde is also UFA.
allright, some days passed, some players signed....
Nycholat, Rourke, Huskins, Wotton, Ference, Byrne, Jurcina, Brown
Actually still unsigned are:
Jeff Jillson of the Rochester Americans/Buffalo Sabres
Aaron Johnson of the Syracuse Crunch/Columbus Blue jackets

I doubt You'll see Huskins or Bruno leaving Anaheim's system and Ference is signed by CGY.
Boumedienne started the season in Zurich of the swiss league... But he was playing terrible, so he left in direction of Sweden...
by the way, what happens with Mathieu Biron, Jared Aulin and Miroslav Zalesak?
Is Zurich the team where Marty McSorely's brother coaches? Not too many players played well for Marty in Springfield either so that doesn't mean a thing. Boumedienne is a pretty good player. It just might be the coaching.

Marty McSorley never coached in Switzerland... Marty's brother Chris is coaching Geneva since about 5 years, and he's doing a great job there... They signed for next season AHL Topscorer Kirby Law, Jamie Wright and probably Michal Grosek and Serge Aubin...

My bad. How is Chris doing? Has he won any titles and what was his record last year. I heard he was just like his brother. Old school hockey guy.
Last season they were not in playoffs and he hasn't won any title.... In addition, he won't win anytime a title with Geneva I guess... He has a system we call in switzerland "System McSorley"... It's pretty good, and there are a lot of young guys improving...

Does he use the Flying V Mighty Ducks power play breakout that his brother took from the Disney movie and used here in Springfield? It was so funny to watch.

Some years ago, he came with Geneva into the first division... He had with Oleg Petrov, Jamie Heward and Brett Hauer some great guys... He played very defensively.. But in the last years he started to work with young and talented talents mixed with some older guys and all the time good foreigners... Bezina is actually their defender number 1... He played some seasons for Springfield, so you should know him... Then he had for example last season Andreas Johansson, Yves Sarault, Michal Grosek, Jan Hlavac and Jason Krog.... But Grosek and Krog left during the season, and he signed some other players like Jamie Wright, Neil Little....
For next season, they signed as I already said... Serge Aubin, Kirby Law, Michal Grosek, Jamie Wright and 2 unknown french... Some rumours were also in Switzerland, that he will sign Claude Lapointe...

I always liked Goran but it seemed he was always in Marty McSorley's doghouse. I think Goran is proving him wrong. I heard Krog didn't like Chris McSorley as a coach and maybe the feeling was mutual. Yves was here for a short visit and showed he can score and is a good player but Marty didn't seem to like him either. I'm suprised they ended up playing for his brother. It does seem they can sign good players every year but have trouble keeping them there.
