Haven't seen this anywhere but the Panthers signed Allen to a 1-year deal worth 1.55M, he'll be a UFA next season, I would love to see us bring him back if it's at all possible.

From what I understand Nonis is expecting to do just that. I think Allen was the one player who really did not want to be traded. Could definitely see him back.

I agree, I would love to see Allen brought back especially if we happened to lose Salo who is also up for UFA next summer. But I'm hoping that we can still keep him. The only question though is who would Allen take over for if he's brought back and we're able to keep our top six from this year together? My money would be on Krajicek even though I like his upside.
it's way too early to see if Allen even fits into our team next season.
What if Bourdon actually develops well?? unless he's moved to the right side (which isn't impossible), our left side would be set for the next 3 yrs with Ohlund-Mitchell-Bourdon. Allen doesn't play well on the right side.
If Bourdon can make that switch (or if Mitchell can), then it creates a space for him... but as of right now, our left side - especially more so next season as Bourdon will be another year older - looks to be set already.
Lets bring Allen and Bertuzzi back next year...
= Luongo for Auld
Yes but that would give you even more cap issues.
Though this makes the Luongo deal even worse if Allen comes back to you guys after this season. Hopefully we have a good season and Allen fits in well here.
Boy, I'm torn. I don't know who else is coming off the books next year besides Salo, but if I had to choose between signing Salo and Allen, I'd choose Salo. I guess it all depends on how much the cap goes up next year but it doesn't look like we're going to be players in the UFA market next year.

if we're a low payroll team, well below the cap, and aren't players in the UFA market, then I'd be disappointed...
but if we're operating near the cap, because of having star players like Luongo, Naslund, Ohlund, etc on the payroll, and aren't players on the UFA market because of that, then I'd be fine with it...
in fact, I'd perfer it... it'd be great if this organization could actually draft and develop their own future stars - and pay them what they've earned in our system - rather than having to worry about filling talent from a competitive UFA market and all the bidding wars it brings...
From what I understand Nonis is expecting to do just that.
From what you understand????
<Insert incredulity here>
I don't think Nonis made any statement to this regard (did he? if he did, I'm sorry), so at best you're just trying to guess what he's HOPING for - but that's not you understanding of what Nonis is expecting to do. Besides - if Allen has a great season, he just might command 2.5 or more, and can we afford him then? Unknown.

what Nonis said following the trade was "don't be surprised to see Allen back here next year" ... basically answering a question that Luongo was a UFA after a year (prior to his extension obviously), and that they traded for him... he said that both Bertuzzi and Allen are also UFAs after this year, and don't be surprised if Allens is back.
I'm guessing he talked to Allen after the trade, and Allen may have expressed that he didnt' want to leave and enjoyed it here?? and basically Nonis told him that there could be an option as a UFA next season here??
again... all guesses... all we know for sure is that Nonis did make the comment about Allen possibly returning in a year. If there was nothing to it, why not say the same about Bertuzzi?
edit: just to add.. "expecting" is probably not the right word for this... more likely Nonis is hoping that Allen could be back....

Those were his exact words, "Don't be surprised to Allen back here..", which leads me to believe he knows something already. Don't know if this consitutes tampering since Bryan is technically an RFA, but I was quite shock when Dave said this. He's usually not the type to make such a bold statement unlike his predecessor.

Allen is UFA next year. Drafted 1998 yeah he's a UFA next year. Sedin's UFA year is next season so Allen is for sure a UFA next year.
...he will most likely sign in Toronto. I had a brief conversation with him after the Detroit series a few years back and asked him where the best place to play hockey is....he said Toronto. Home province etc.
I am sure his second choice is where the money is and third in Vancouver. Hopefully he returns though
if allen comes back, sweet. you can tell it was hard for nonis to trade him, and losing a guy like him hurts even more if salo doesn't come back next year (which i doubt will return)

it can't constitute tampering... the canucks owned his rights before they shipped him off to Florida... obviously Nonis spoke with him when he was still canuck property... and even if he decided to inform Allen right after he informed the league, that sort of thing won't ever come out...

I don't think we have to worry about Toronto going after him in FA next year... so it basically comes down to where the money is... which team didn't give big multiyear contracts to d-men so far this offseason??
Florida will toil near the bottom as the Canucks pick up bertuzzi and allen at the deadline for a cup run
it'd be funny if that happened... and it could, technically.
Florida could be out of the playoffs by deadline time, and both so far are UFAs after this year (Bert can sign an extension) after Jan. 1st... Vancouver could be going in with $3 mill or so in cap room, which should fit the remaining salary for Bert and Allen for a playoff run...
I don't think however that Nonis will bring Bert back... if we're in the position to be buying players for a playoff run, then you don't want to bring back pieces like Bert.
