Ducks promotion for Saturday (against the Sharks): free tickets for those who dress up like a KISS band member.

Yes! Last night in Detroit 18634. Thursday in Atlanta 12112. Huge difference!

In expectations and success over the last 10 years, certainly. A huge difference.

You're comparing a Friday to a Thursday. That's worth a few thousand in attendance right there.

You're also comparing the most successful franchise in modern hockey to a team that has played one playoff series in 10 years. When the Wings play one playoff series in 10 years, a comparison will be fair.

If Detroit had one playoff series in 10 years, you'd probably see 12,000 in the arena. But I don't wish for that to happen, and hope your franchise continues to see good gate revenues. I certainly won't stand around chortling if and when you don't.

So would a comparision to the Leafs be realistic then?

That Thursday night game in Atlanta was brutal. Even the Bruins studio analysts were making jokes about it "all 20 people cheered". Looked worse than the Phoenix + Boston game earlier this year. Official attendance was a little over 12,000 but people can do funny things with numbers.
