"In this particular case, what would happen is we (in the League's video replay room in Toronto) would see the puck in the net and call the video goal judge and say, 'Please blow the horn and get the referee over here. We see a puck in the net that hasn't been ruled a goal,' " Murphy said. "At that point the referee would come over and we would have the discussion. Usually the referees know exactly what's happening and they would come to us and say, 'Listen, I blew the whistle or my intent to blow the whistle was there. I've got this play dead before the puck crosses the goal line.' No more need be said. Once we hear that, basically video review is now out of the process. We step aside and say it's a call made on the ice and it's a non-reviewable call. It's a whistle blown by the referee and it was blown or the intent to blow it was before the puck crossed the goal line."
The logic in this way of thinking is nonexistent. In this case, that's like saying the play is dead as soon as it hits the Stars' goalie because it wasn't like there was a scrum in front of the net and it eventually made its way in. THE PUCK WENT RIGHT IN! The NHL needs to change this asap.
Haha I detect some sarcasm. But still, it's the dumbest thing I've seen in a very long time, and I even watched it live on NHL Network. Surprised the officials didn't send the team a care package not off gifts, but of their own diarrhea.
I was just browsing some stats on NHL.com and noticed something the Flyers should be proud of this season.
So far, they have trailed going into the 3rd period only three times. San Jose, Buffalo, Calgary and Colorado are the next closest, trailing going into the third period five times. That's pretty solid through nearly 1/4 of the season.
Edit: Wow. Boston only trailed going into the third period 17 times last season.
Edit #2: The Pens were 0-41-10 in 05/06 when trailing after two periods.

Penguins broadcasters still finding reasons to take shots at the Flyers. The Penguins were standing up for themselves when they were losing 6-2 to Ottawa, but "it's nothing like what the Flyers do."
Wonky goal allowed by Zajac in the shootout though. He lost control of the puck, started to turn away, and just slapped at the puck with a backhand, and scored.

Hey, I'll go ahead and admit this is an out of town fan with a fantasy hockey related question, so mods can feel free to move/delete this post if it's in the wrong place.
I signed Darroll Powe as a FA in my keeper league, and I was interested to see if you guys think his goal scoring pace this early in the season is anomalous. From what I've heard he's got 3rd-liner upside, and I realise how deep the Flyers' forward corps is, so I realise that it's unlikely he'll play any bigger role than that in Philly. Anyways, I was hoping for a bit more insight from folks who get to watch him play regularly.
