I could co-GM Cup's team and make up the picks and keep picking until he returns or it ends. I guess GBC and a couple of you would have to 'yay' that with no one having reservations. Let me know.
You have my approval. Sucks that Cup went away again, but it happens, and someone's gotta take that team over. I was actually thinking you'd be a great candidate if you came back anytime soon, and what do ya know, here you are.
The Portland Rosebuds are thrilled to select some poor ******* who will hardly see the ice, goalie Nikolai Khabibulin.
Thanks, worked late and had a night that was more eventful than I would have liked.
Khabibulin does have some consistency issues, but, as he'll never play back to back games, that shant be a problem. But when he's on he's a cup winning goalie who dragged many a Pheonix team to the playoffs.

Thanks. One or two more thumbs up and GBC's okaying ought to be approval enough.
I'm in the process of reviewing who has and hasn't been drafted so far. (Interesting... )
Cup is currently online and is browsing the Sens forum.
after reading your post, i went and PM'd him... he didn't reply, he surfed to a couple of other pages then ten minutes later logged off (i asked him to please make up the five missed picks or indicate a GM to take over the team)

Golonka is a guy that brings a bit of everything. He can score, he can check, he's tenacious and gritty and his leadership abilities are off the charts. Sounds like a pretty good extra forward to me.
I'm going to be lazy and post seventies bio for Golonka from the last MLD, since we all know how much work he puts into them.
I never like it when something like this happens. But we need to move forward. If we can get a guy (and a GM) like VanI to take over the team in the short-term, I say let's do it. And if Cup wants to continue with the draft, then I'm sure he'd be pleased to have a knowledgeable guy, with the gift of gab, like VanI, to help run his team, and to hype his players once the debate starts.
It sucks that this has happened with Cup again, because he knows the game and its history, and he seems like a good guy. But with the main draft likely to end tomorrow, we need to do something.
(I knew being the ATD 12 chief would have its drawbacks).
Welcome back, VanI. You can make up those five skipped picks at your leisure.
The only downside to VanI's return is I believe he's in my division. Again.

He's received many PMs and he's been online at least twice since he started missing picks. He's able to come back and pick(or at least make a post to explain himself), but he's choosing not too. He's blowing us off.
I would give the team to Van, and wouldn't let Cup return even if he wants to.

For sure. I will co-GM the team in his absence but defer to him any time if he returns.
Now, with all due respect to him, I'm gonna re-arrange the line-up a bit: Oates and Hull move up to the first line with Clarke-Alfie seeing equal minutes but are 2nd liners in that they are assigned to go against the opposition's top line whereas Oates-Hull are all about offense. And the 18th round pick Al Iafrate is BENCHED.
Ottawa 67's
Coach: Mike Babcock
Pete Mahovlich - Adam Oates - Brett Hull
Kevin Stevens - Bobby Clarke - Daniel Alfredsson
Vic Hadfield - Jeremy Roenick - Alexander Mogilny

Tim Horton - Sergei Gonchar
Gary Suter - Steve Smith

Al Iafrate

Ottawa will score goals and get PIMs but the penalty kill units need rounding out. So...
making up some missed picks (rounds 19, 20, 21) are two fourth line wingers and a third pairing dman:
Wayne Merrick, LW/C, responsible for checking top lines for the Isles dynasty team, will play on the hard-working Sutter line with pre-20th century retroSelke "gritty" "bloodhound" multipositional forward Jack Findlay on the other side. On the third blueline unit will be the multitalented Red Army great defenseman Grennady Tsygankov who was effective checking Canadian forwards in the '72 Summit series and was renowned for his penalty killing, on six world gold teams, two olympic gold teams and the 1979 Challenge Cup series wins against NHLers.
Roenick, Suter, Smith are certainly going to start things they may not finish, so a guy talented to take a regular shift but willing to drop his gloves to stand up for teammates is needed, and so when a guy like Mogilny is injured or slumpin' or when the opposition won't take the rough and tumble Ottawa style, then...
Wilf Paiement, rw, "played a solid two-way game, establishing himself as a scorer who could fight very effectively". 814 NHL points in 946 NHL games with 1757 PIM. Eleven seasons of 100+ PIMs of the fighting kind, three all-star games, and a world championships co-MVP title shared with Sergei Makarov. He can handle third or fourth line duty when called on but will be an extra skater more nights than not.
Dickie Boon, HHOF defenseman, known to rush the puck and be the fastest skater in hockey but also: " he used the poke-check to great effect long before Frank Nighbor and Jack Walker, the two usually credited with originating the maneuver. Montreal Shamrock forward xxxxxx, himself a champion speed skater, thought Boon was the hardest defender in the league to stick-handle past because of his quickness, coordination, and anticipatory skills."
Dickie Boon is undrafted, according to control-F (which has failed me twice today)

Boon is yours. You're 3-for-5 now. Two picks to go.
Okay, so Merrick, Findlay and Boon are all 67's right? K, then the starting line-up is done:

Now an extra forward and backup goalie is needed. Hmmm..
He's received many PMs and he's been online at least twice since he started missing picks. He's able to come back and pick(or at least make a post to explain himself), but he's choosing not too. He's blowing us off.

It's ironic that he's gone missing after being so vocal and posting so much in the early parts of the draft. The fact that he's been back on the board and not bothered to post a word at the very least shows that he doesn't have much interest/and or the time to finish his team. It appears to me that he's taken his ball and gone home.
At the very least it's disappointing as the ATD has been built on members debating the merits of their players in an effort to educate the larger group.
I can't help but wonder if his absence was prompted by the long and sometimes contentious argument about his self-admitted favourite player.

I don't mind people missing time; real life gets in the way.
He's been online at least twice since he stopped drafting, which is more than enough time to come in and explain what's going on. He bailed.
Jimmy Gardner, lw, the HHOFer has four Stanley Cups, multi-year Habs captain, IHL star, and chemistry with fellow Little Man of Iron, Boon.
Slim Halderson, rw/d, 6'3", won Olympic gold as a right winger, Allan Cup, Stanley Cup, was also PCHA all-star as a defenseman and mutiple AHA all-star at I don't know what position
"A clever all-round player with exceptional stick-handling ability... his 200 pound frame was lean and gangly. He had a loose-limbed skating style that looked awkward at first, but his rushes down the wing, combined with his defensive savvy, allowed him to play for 20 years in leagues across North America... a good puck carrier who would get a head of steam going down his right wing and then continue across center when he entered the offensive zone.... rugged play"
