Expectations aren't always met. And, with the lack of attention, or the negative attention, he's gotten since being drafted, you'd think he was a 2nd round pick, not a 2nd overall pick. I'm just saying he's looked pretty damn good so far, and even though my expectations were/are high, he's been impressive nonetheless.

Before today's game, he's only had one hit. Surprising for a player of his size.

Three assists for JVR today and he doesn't look out of place at all in Philly.

I think he can continue a PPG pace if he continues playing with good line-mates.

Playing very good so far.

With Gagne out for a few months, and Briere out at the moment, he'll stay in the top 6. He's shown good chemistry with Carter, so I think they'll stick together, and hopefully JVR will continue racking up the assists, passing the puck to a natural goal scorer like Carter. Honestly, JVR's been one of the Flyers best forwards all season so far, so I think he'll be staying in the Flyers top 6 regardless, hopefully for the next 10+ years.

It's impressive how JVR has been playing with all different kinds of linemates, but still manages to find chemistry. He's been great for the Flyers so far.

JVR has been averaging a point every 10 minutes of ice time. For comparison, Ovechkin has been averaging a point every 13.3 minutes so far this year. Most of that has been with Giroux and freaking Powe as linemates. Granted JVR doesnt get the top shut down guys all over him, his pace wont last, and theres something to be said for logging big minutes. Still, that is a red hot pace. Now with Gagne and Briere injured he will see some action on a top line with Carter or Richards and will be getting more minutes.

Wow, I thought I was going overboard in mentioning JVR's points, but calculating how many he's getting per minute, in comparison to Ovechkin, has definitely one upped me.

But anyways, JVR has already been playing with Carter, and Laliberte, for the last two games, and the line has clicked. Laliberte has looked pretty good so far himself, as he is the first Flyer since Lindros who has scored a goal in his first two NHL games.

he hasn't been soft. he has been crashing the net and battling on the boards. Just because he doesnt have"hits" doesnt make him soft, watch the games not the statsheet

right on, i typically hate the flyers so know this is not coming from homer bias. JVR is a beast going to the net and with the puck. he can't be handled. when the dude starts filling the net he is going to be unstoppable.

i must say, i have greatly enjoyed watching the PHI games this year. JVR, Richards, Carter, Giroux... a lot of talnt to appreciate there.

Really liked seeing him live at the WJC despite the hate I saw on here.

He might actually be living up to the expectations of a 2nd overall. Time will tell.

I could not be happier with his progress
And if he stays with Carter for the next 2 months, will be a match made in heaven !!!

He's not soft at all. He's not going to be a powerforward on the Rick Tocchet mold, but he will go in the corners, in front of the net and doesn't shy away from any contact.

Also the "hit stat" for ames played in Philadelphia is always ridiculously low. If you don't put someone in the 3rd row it isn't counted as a hit, where in other places a simple rubout is counted.

He will eventually add another 15 lbs. of muscle and as his upperbody strenth improves he's going to be an absolute beast to contain.

Hes not soft at all. He gets the majority of his points in traffic areas. Hes always in the corner, behind the net, or in front of the net. He takes a beating, and he isnt soft no matter how many hits he does, or doesnt deliver.
