Hahaha oh man, Scott Lachance... I wonder what he's doing these days

Anyway, if we were somehow able to get like... Redden and Streit... I might just feel good....

As much as an arrogant dumbass XGMDM turned out to be, this club could use some of that swagger and charisma.

Yep, I agree. A few deals have gotten by Howson maybe because he didn't show enough interest??

Lets see if we can hire Don Cherry in any compacity here and have him accompany Howson at all times.

The nice thing about the Redden situation, is that I don't think its going to take much time to get resolved. He's either going to like the money or not and I think that'll be that.

He doesn't like the money and the situation, both sides move on.

I don't envision a lot of negotiation.

That would be like that movie where everything was in '50s B&W. Two '90s kids get sucked into that world and they're the only ones in color.

Cherry & Howson, I wonder if the universe would fly apart if they came into contact? Talk about opposites.

I LOL when I first read that idea, but now that I think about it, who better to help Scotty convince free agents to come here? Who better to convince the Canadian media that Columbus is not hockey Siberia? Who better to get the Columbus fanbase believing the other teams are no better than we are?

(only half serious)

Of course, that would mean we'd have to never pick up a Euro player ever again!

Food for thought.
At the time, they were fairly well regarded. Probably about on the same level of interest as some of the names mentioned around here.

Today's kick to the groin from Spector...

SPECTOR'S NOTE: The Jackets likely won't entice a big name UFA but they can find plenty of affordable depth elsewhere that could significantly bolster their lineup next season.
Enough "depth," we need substance.

Agreed.

As I recall, all three signings received pretty good reviews at HF, not just here in our little corner.

*sigh*

How I miss Doug's July 4th surprises.

I think he meant Robert Bork, Benjamin Orr and a jet ski.

I guess what I'm saying is, don't be shocked if the Blue Jackets don't get a player signed on Tuesday. It could well go down on Wednesday or Thursday. Friday, even.

If Benjamin Orr hadn't already passed away at that point, he would have drafted him. He was from Parma, after all.

Howson told me tonight that he's talking trade with at least two clubs. These discussions are "not necessarily" hinging on what happens in free agency, they're just trade talks that could go down after the initial rush of free agency is finished.
Interesting.

With SH's ties to Edmonton and Visnovsky's acquisition likely making Pitkanen available ...

Zherdev for Pitkanen, with a swap of picks evening out the bumps?

Anybody surprised? More importantly, did anybody think we would be offering Hossa what the B's are said to be offering? 12 yrs, 100 mil??

Campbell and Hossa were out of reach before they even announced their intentions to test the market.

say what you will about Portie, he acts just like everyone else on this board... Excited when he sees a list of the free agents only to realize which team he writes for...

As far as the trade talk goes, this might be our best option in the long run, if Howson decides to not be so tight-fisted with our prospects. The thought of moving a player like Dan Fritsche for essentially his replacement doesn't fill me with much confidence though...

A reasonable and acceptable if not stunning superfecta. Swap Klesla (a move that would sting for sure) for Boyle or his ilk, and you're set.

Sure, I'm pissy today, but If we came away with something like this:

Orpik
Morrison
Hagman or Huselius
Roszival

I'd probably be ok... maybe...

I want Brooks Orpik.... Probably more then anybody else at this point.

Rick Nash will probably be the highest paid player on this team at 6.5 million this season. I'm not going to lose sleep over Howson't reluctance to spend 8 mill per on any single player, just get the right players for 2-4 million.

I'm with you on Orpick.

Granted, I don't know a whole lot about him. But my husband is a huge Penguins fan, so we watched them during playoffs. Orpick stands out to me due to one shift in a game, I think it was the division finals.

In one shift, he knocked the crap out of 4 different players. It seems like anything that came near him, he planted, good and hard. I'd love to get him and that toughness on the Jackets.
