Not to stick up for the newbie... but our arena is empty.. if your a Jacket fan your ok by me.
I too bristle a little at Malone being inked into the lines, not because dude hasn't signed with us, but because he surely isn't going to worth the money he is looking for.
4.5 - 5MM is a lotta bones imo.
i guess i need to start hanging out in the message boards all day and night to gain some respect on these boards.
malone is not my #1 choice once FA starts, but he is an instant upgrade for the top 6 and brings an intense style of hockey to every game he plays. He is no Speeza, but reminds me of a young Cam Neely.

Or just chill and know when to drop things/not to start them.
While I am exciting to have Malone in the line up, I don't think he will land here. The Wild is reportedly in the mix for Malone and I think we will need to overpay by atleast 1M if not more for him to even consider The Jackets over The Wild. I think Scotty will overpay and I hope he does but there is a limit.
It would be hard for us to outbid them because he owns a house in Minnesota and played college hockey there.
I would take a pay cut to play for a team thats near where I call home how about you?
Probably. It ultimately depends on how your skill set fits with your new situation. C-bus should be a great fit for Malone: lack of top 6 nhl ready talent, coach Hitch, and money to spend on other pieces.
Wow, this got off subject pretty solid. Here are my thoughts (for what it's worth). Filatov's arrival could be great for Z: it could make him more responsible - have him take somewhat of a mentor role. Knowing how Hitchcock operates, that's probably one of the methods he'll use to get more out of him. A second aspect to consider is that, if Z doesn't follow up on his "bounce-back" season from last year, the prospect depth makes him more expendable, allowing us to get some much-needed support on defense.
Also, I've said this in other places, but I'm a huge fan of sending Filatov to CHL rather than AHL. Regardless of his skill level, the most important thing that he'll get the opportunity to develop in the CHL - which won't be the case in the AHL - is leadership ability. There's something to be said for being the best player on a team, the guy your teammates look to in key situations. He would not get that opportunity on an AHL team where he'd be the youngest player. But he'd definitely be that guy in the CHL.
The skills, he'll continue to develop, but the leadership, getting used to playing in clutch situation: that stuff pays off in spades.

That could very well be the case. But leadership is a intangible that (if present) will surface no matter where he is playing.
I'd rather make sure that he is stretched by playing against the highest level of competition, without him getting dominated. I'll trust H & H to evaluate where he belongs and get him there. Let his play determine where he goes. Otherwise, you would have to conclude that Pittsburgh really screwed up by "rushing" Crosby into the NHL.
The kid's under a microscope right now, but so far he seems to be saying all the right things. At least, all the things that we want to hear. I'm looking forward to what he can do on the ice with our team.
