I was going to mention Russell as a possibility as I know he was touted, but not seeing his play this year I wasn't sure if I would be laughed at or have everyone go "hell yeah - do it".
Trading Kris would be the equivillent of breaking up with a really sweet girl. I'd hate to do it but if it improves us...Our biggest IMMEDIATE need is a scoring center. The Flyers need Cap room and EVERYONE wants a puck moving defenseman. Kris Russell is close but not quite there.
Good one... You had me going; I almost thought you were serious. That was the best joke on this board since a guy from Montral offered us Theodore for Nash. Thanks for the laughs.
I agree the 6th for Umberger is a terrible proposal. But I think you guys are forgetting this...
The second is enough. Your talking about a borderline top 6 player and a team running up against the cap. I doubt they are interested in an overpriced 4th line center.
The Philly forums were lukewarm on it -- Some embraced, some dismissed so I figured there was some interest in terms of organizational need. Since I don't know enough about their needs i'm basically out of the loop in terms of matching their need with our assets.
Oh, and thanks for the warm welcomes old schoolers.

No hard feelings FCR. Philly just agreed to terms with Jeff Carter for 3 years $15 mill. There most pressing need is Cap room. Everyone wants a puck moving defenseman. I don't think we have what they want there. There seems to be consenus here and Philly's board and the main board for our 2nd PLUS a roster player (Malholtra) for RJ.
I guess everyone's an internet tough guy in some respects
Which is why it was hillarious reading people complain about bloggers on here the other day. I mean, message board posters knocking bloggers is a bit like La Casa Nostra saying they don't like the way the Yakuza does business.

Some were quite receptive when they referenced Manny's face-off %. Also spoke about him being good on defense and able to "chip in" occasionally on offense.
But the overall consensus was that he doesn't fill any of their perceived needs. (Aside from giving them significant breathing room under the salary cap...conveniently forgot about that)

bloggers thrive on message board posters. We're the source of inspiration

Well, the Flyers needs are:
1) Puck-moving two way defenseman
.

.
.

.
.
2) 3rd line center IF Briere is moved to the wing.
So for the most part it seems us fans fall into 2 categories, those who think RJ+ will get us a good cheap 2nd pairing dman, and the other half who would love that but don't expect it too happen given the premium on mobile puck carrying defencemen.
im with the other half. show me 1 team in the league who wouldnt love another quality cheap second pairing dman
As am I. Unless it was for a young dman with potential for the 2nd line but not there yet, I know RJ won't bring in someone who can step right away onto the 2nd line for a decent salary. However I would be thrilled if Holmgren could work some more magic and pull it off.

The price tag on 2 way D-men is absurd currently. We're letting Ron Hainsey walk because he wants $4M. I mentioned Russell earlier but I doubt he fills your immediate needs there. If the 2way D man is such a high priority why did you trade Pitkenan and Let Kim Johansen walk. I would put the #1 need is Cap sapce. Our 2nd and Malholtra should be mutually agreeable.

Pitkanen was a bit of a head case, didn't get along with anyone (if even Sami Kapanen can't get through to you, you know you have problems), was hard to coach. Basically he is the type of player will all the tools but no toolbox.
Johnsson got offered a huge salary from the Wild (which was hard to match after signing Hatcher and Rathje) plus was coming off a severe concussion, so they let him walk.
I agree that the Malhotra/2nd deal fits perfectly, but only if Briere is moved to the wing. Otherwise Malhotra would be an overpriced 4th liner.
