At the same time, if he sticks with the team and has another strong year and gets a nice new contract, I don't think we'd ever hear him complain.
And when have you ever heard him complain up till now? He doesn't do interviews. He is very self-conscience about his English. But like his game, he has worked on it and improved.
I think AP said that he was close to getting him to talk late last year, but that was lost when he hit a rough spot and his play fell off.
I feel for the kid. He had a horrible experience with XGMDM. Can't blame him for being gun-shy. But it really warmed my heart to see his turnaround last year.
And voluntarily giving up a hatty to assist a teammate's goal, I was proud of him like he was my own son.
im just curious...do people actually pronounce Columbus like the way they think its spelled? its kind of an insult, we've been in the league since 2000...youd think people would notice how to spell the city. ive seen its countless times spelled with an O here. i can spell all the other cities with no problem
its not pronounced CoLOMbus
its LUM like the word plum. COLUMBUS
sorry its just a major pet peeve of mine
Actually, most natives (and I've lived here 48 years) pronounce it "Klumbus" as in "Klumbus, Hi-a"

Wow, what natives are you hanging out with? I haven't even heard that from the good folks in 'Nerk. I have heard the Hi-a though, although I have heard quite a few o-hi-a.
Although my 23 years pales in comparison.
Man this last 2 weeks is going to kill me... Come on draft...
interesting linguistic note:
Columbus is considered to have the perfect American accent. Foreigners will come here to learn English to sound like your normal everyday American. We're special
Cody Hodgson talking about the draft combine. He wasn't scheduled to interview with San Jose, but at the last minute they added him to their list. Seems to support the suggestion that the Sharks may be talking trade with the Jackets...

Oddly, Canadians are considered to have a very neutral accent as well. Many US news readers are actually Canadian, selected in part because their accent doesn't peg them as coming from any particular region.
Of course there are regional variations, just as there are in the US. You wouldn't mistake a Newfoundlander for someone from Ontario...

Well that's interesting, Hodgson is a top 10 pick so if there's not a trade with us, then who?
"The seventh spot is better this year than what you'd normally get," the interim general manager conceded yesterday, "but it's our responsibility to listen to anything good that another team might offer.
"I don't think there's such a thing as a quick fix anymore, but we could either trade it, use it to move up, move down, exchange a pick with someone or use it ourselves."
The day after the combine, Hodgson did some fitness testing with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
"It went well," said Hodgson, noting that the test with the Leafs wasn't as strenuous as the combine.
When asked about what he thought about the prospect of being drafted by the Leafs he said, "Well, it's really exciting," said Hodgson. "It would be great to be drafted by anybody, but I was a Leaf fan growing up and it would be a dream come true."

If not the top ten certainly by the 19th...which it better be if the Jackets are talking trade with the Sharks

I'd hate to see him go.
I'm sorry, I believe you misunderstood my post.
Someone made a comment that he'd like to get out of the city of Columbus, I was just stating that of all the NHL cities, Columbus is actually one of the few he's relatively happy in. If anything, it would be the fact that not everyone likes playing for Hitch as to why he wouldn't like Columbus, but when you see results, you don't complain.
I was simply making the point that, while Hitchcock is not a desirable coach for most to play for, if Nikolai continues to improve the way he has thus far, he certainly wouldn't complain about the demands of the coach.
Also re: interviews. He's tried, I've seen it. He's just not there yet in public.
Interesting...I guess the 365 players they polled don't care about winning much.
The top 7 were:
Mike Keenan, Flames ...... has won a Stanley Cup
Marc Crawford, Kings ...... has won a Stanley Cup
Ken Hitchcock, Blue Jackets ....has won a Stanley Cup
John Tortorella, Lightning ...... has won a Stanley Cup
Michel Therrien, Penguins ......just lost in the Stanley Cup
Jacques Lemaire, Wild ...has won Stanley Cups as both player and coach
Mike Babcock, Red Wings ...just won the Stanley Cup
I could never play for Tortorella. The temptation would be too great to turn around during a stoppage and go "Dude, shut the #$^*&#$^ up and wipe that crybaby pout off your $#(*&#$ face!"
That player poll reminds me of what the Red Wings players used to say about Scotty Bowman back in the day. You hated his guts for 364 days. On the 365th, you got your Stanley Cup ring.
I remember a story from Bowman's Montreal days; he had his arbitrary plus/minus spreadsheet on him at all times like it was the nuclear football, and he'd mercilessly hound guys for a variety of reasons.
One night on the road, there was a fire at the hotel where the Habs were staying in the middle of the night. All the players were standing outside, and Bowman's favorite target yelled "Hey, where's Scotty?" Someone else said "I'm surprised that you even care." The first player goes "I don't give a $&@# about that #$*(#$, I just want to find his $#(*$ plus/minus sheet!"

lol, great story. I love Bowman, my favorite HC of all time. He won a cup everywhere cept where I wanted him to....some teams can't win for lose.
