So you're suggesting that his child couldn't get treatment in the United States where they probably have even better doctors?

Ohlund has commented on this before saying that his family is comfortable with the treatment their child is getting in Vancouver and they do not want to move because of that... it's a special treatment apparently with a longtime doctor there in one of the best children's hospitals in the world.

having said that, this news was released a few years back now, and at the time he was very clear that he didn't want to leave Vancouver... I haven't heard anything more recently on it, but there's no reason to think things have changed considering his main reason for not leaving was the comfort level his family had in Vancouver with their longtime doctor... it didn't sound like he wanted to disrupt that situation with his family.

No. Why move when the kid is getting fine treatment? Why go through all the hassle of finding the right doctor to do whatever? Ohlund's in a comfortable situation right now. No reason for him to move.

There might be better doctors elsewhere, but I remember Ohlund coming out and saying something like his kid is doing better here, where the doctors are famialiar with him and know him or something like that, and even though there could be better medical services elsewhere, that he does not want to move his kid from Vancouver. Don't remember when he said this, I just remember something like this being discussed on this board before.

Edit: What they said^.

Marleau is the superior player when compared to Thornton - as Thornton is like a Swede come playoff time - he evaporates. Anyone who would not trade the Sisters for Marleau and Cheechoo are insane. If you could get Marleau and Setoguchi, you would be far ahead of where you were.

You gotta think that San Jose (cup contender) would be a team that he would be willing to go to.
but you think Ohlund sucks. so why would San Jose trade Marleau for a defenseman who sucks?

and for the rest of the world who realize that Ohlund doesn't actually suck, there is still the fact that Ohlund is on the downslope of his career and isn't the player he was 3-4 years ago. So again, why would San Jose trade Marleau for a player on the decline? they wouldn't is the obvious answer.

I do expect someone like Cheechoo and maybe Marleau to become available though.

Now let me play devils advocate: Would you deal the Sedins for Marleau and Cheechoo?

in a heart beat.

as much as i hate cheechoo (too slow for the team I want)... but i could see flipping cheechoo to another team (maybe sabres) for kotalik or something.

Let's trade the twins for Thornton and Marleau and Michalek, then package Thornton and a 2nd for Crosby, then Michalek and a 1st for Ovechkin. Marleau and Bourdon for Iginla.

Ovechkin - Crosby - Iginla...wow

Because The_Pauser knows something that the rest of the NHL commuity, including GM and professional scouts, don't know.

He's that good.

For the same "reasons" as those that think the Sedins suck (or or think they're just "2nd liners") - *yet* think we can trade them for a "franchise center".

Yeah, except players like Lidstrom, Frantzen and Forsberg are Swedish.

Your opinion must be a good reflection of your character.

I'd also like to add, the team played terrible when Ohlund was injured. He is still probably our best d-man. I wouldn't trade him.

Marleau would be a great addition - he plays fast, gritty hockey. His 48 points this season are somewhat underwhelming (as is his -19), but he's definitely got the talent to be at least a point per game player.

He won't come cheap though. I think the general impression around the league would be that he has been under-utilized in San Jose. Just because it seems like Sharks management doesn't appreciate his talent doesn't mean that the rest of the league feels the same way.

In many ways, he plays the same game as Richards (although with less accolades), but will come at $1.5 million less. I don't think you'd have to give up the Sedins to get him, and I don't think it makes sense for either the Sharks or the Canucks. But definitely a top prospect (Schneider/Bourdon), a 1st or 2nd rounder, and someone like Bieksa.

That's a price I'd gladly pay.

Dunno, dude is clutch in the playoffs. Only Iggy has more goals than him in the past 3 years, so said somone on TSN the other night.

But im not sure I want him as he isnt consistent and not really what I consider gritty. Seems like Pierre Turgeon type. Good but not great. We have 2 of those allready in the Sedins.
