I'm guessing around 65-75% on rottentomatoes. It does look cheesy at times, but the movie doesn't really take itself seriously anyway so it might work.
Looks like one of the better super hero flicks so far but I'll probably catch the DVD as i'm on a tight budget.
Iron man was tony stark but his friend jim rhodes took over for iron man for a few years because tony stark was too drunk to be iron man.
There are many versions of different iron man armour and he had a black suit with a gatling gun on the shoulder that was dubbed "war machine"
I'm really excited about this movie and think its not just slaped together but they are actually treating iron man like a franchise character. Iron man is one of the most important characters in the marvel universe right now. Tony stark is the director of shield currently. Nick fury disappeared a few years ago when he went into hiding.
I like how that actually casted an older character for this role. Rather than the typical high school kid you see in so many other hero movies.
Name one "high school kid" in a meaningful super hero movie? Just one. Tobey McGuire, Christian Bale, Eric Bana, Ben Affleck, Thomas Jane, etc -- all older then the characters they played.

Eric Bana is older than Dr. Bruce Banner? And Ben Affleck older than - okay, I've forgotten Daredevil's alter ego, but the blind lawyer dude? I kinda doubt it. Not substantially anyway.
But, again, neither actor nor character are teens in that case. Neither is Bruce Wayne/Batman, for that matter, though I don't know offhand if Christian Bale is older than the character.

You know, I thought it was going to be cheesy at first when they announced they were doing it, but after watching the previews it looks pretty awesome. And I'm not even a comic book fan.
Although.....the only cheesy thing is the obligatory "Iron Man" song attached to all the trailers and commercials.
This is going to be Robert Downey Jr.'s revival year...with Iron Man and him playing a black guy in Tropic Thunder.
I'm also looking forward to seeing how the Hulk/Iron-Man crossover works. There was a scene shot with both that'll be used in both movies to tie them together.
Which hopefully leads to Avengers movie!
Oh and Jon Favreau is a great director, Downey Jr. is the perfect Tony Stark, so Iron Man for the all-around win.

I wouldn't look forward to that - Hollywood would manage to screw that up, if Marvel didn't do it themselves.
Look at all these movies they've released of late - X-Men, Punisher, Ghost Rider, Fantastic Four, Hulk - they've all got stories based on some sort of deeply thoughtful theme, but none have managed to put that together with the action in a way that didn't make a mess of the storyline and come across as preachy.
Now take the Avengers: they don't have a theme, collectively. So if one is forced on them by Marvel's writers...well, it won't be pretty. The strength of Marvel's superhero groups is (was, I guess I should say, since I haven't picked up a comic book for more than a glance at the artwork in nearly 14 years)development of the individual characters that made you connect with them both individually and as a group. So the action against the bad guys wasn't the thing that made you pick up the comic month after month, it was the soap-opera-like connection to the characters. Movies don't have time to develop that. TV shows do, but Marvel isn't making TV. So, ultimately, I would expect any Avengers movie to be crap, because Marvel wouldn't have the sense to just make it a mindless action tale with Michael Bay directing, like they did with Transformers.
On a side note, Iron Man actually looks like it could put the Marvel format of action and message together convincingly. I just hope the writing is decent. Another weakness in the Marvel Movie Madness

OK, Tobey McGuire's character in Spiderman, was in high school.
