Official Playoff Race Watch Thread

After a loss tonight we still sit 4 points out of 8th place.

Games that matter:

Friday, March 7th

Edmonton @ Columbus: 2-1 Oilers final the Blue Jackets don't pass us

Nashville @ Calgary: 2-1 Nashville - now we sit 6 points out

Teams we need to win have been bolded

Saturday, March 8th

Dallas @ Colorado - Colorado came back and won in the third.... Damn Forsberg with two points

Ottawa @ Phoenix

St. Louis @ Vancouver - tough one, but the blues are more likely to lose more of the remaining games than the Nucks so go Blues

Edmonton will be a tough game on Sunday. They're really hot right now.

And yet they're one of the teams that should be considered one of our easier games.

Heres the remainder of the schedule, the easier games are marked with a * and teams we can't let gain points on us are bold

March 9 vs. Oilers*
March 11 @ Detroit
March 12 vs. Hurricanes
March 14 @ Columbus*
March 16 vs. Flames
March 19 vs. Capitals
March 22 @ Nashville
March 23 vs. Blues*
March 26 @ Columbus*
March 29 @ St. Louis*
March 30 vs. Blue Jackets*
April 2 vs. Red wings
April 4 vs. Predators
April 6 @ Detroit

We now sit 6 points out of 8th place.

Sunday, March 9th

Nashville @ Detroit

Tampa Bay @ Columbus

San Jose @ Minnesota (this one doesn't matter too much)

Colorado @ Dallas

Hopefully our luck goes a little better today.

I hope the Hawks can make the 8th spot and faceoff agianst Detroit in the first round and if they can win that series I will say this season has been a victory. I know they can do it but we will have to see how it plays out. I dont want to face Dallas in the first round but it may come to that. I know we can beat Detroit. Ill take a young team who has something to prove over Detroit (who has nothing to prove) any day. Thats why they choke, Detroit has nothing to prove other then not choking.

You win a series against the western confrence champs and the next thing you know in your own mind you're a contender. Making the playoffs alone would be a huge boost for these kids. Being almost out of it and fighting their way into the last spot would be fantastic.

Detroit is up 4-0 on Nashville after 2 periods
Tampa has tied it 3-3 against Columbus also at the second intermission
San Jose is winning even though we won't catch Minnesota anyways

Now hopefully we can win the third period and get 2 points

I honestly don't think we have to worry about Columbus, Phoenix or Edmonton. If those guys are in contention, it means that we aren't.
We have to dominate from this point forward and watch teams like, Nashville, Minnesota, Vancouver and Colorado

Columbus tied us after winning today and we only got 1 point, although we have a game in hand

Playoffs would require an act of god at this point.

That stretch where half the team was hurt killed the Hawks. Every team must withstand injuries, but you really don't want to have them all happen at once...

I'm more interested in how the team will look next year now.

After tonight, the gap between us and 8th place is 7 points. Its looking harder and harder to make the playoffs

Tuesday's Games:

Colorado @ Atlanta

Chicago @ Detroit

San Jose @ Nashville

Anaheim @ Phoenix

Even though at this point it seems hopeless

I've moved from the 'it could happen so you have to win' bandwagon to the 'its not going to happen but win anyways because its more fun' bandwagon. I just want to see some good hockey for the rest of the season even if we do end up outside the playoffs.

We might as well go for a top draft pick now. Honestly we could end up anywhere from 28th place to about 17th. That's a huge difference when you're talking about some of the guys in the draft this year.

Me too. If we can dump Khabbys slary and sign Hossa and Cambell we will be next season. If we can dump the contract we would have money to sign both and add depth. Playoffs for sure next season.

down to four points out of a playoff spot and this thread isn't bumped yet?

I know it's still a bit unrealistic but hey... lets look at the rest...

Vancouver - finish playing Calgary, Colorado, Minnesota, Calgary, Colorado, Edmonton, Calgary
Colorado - finish playing Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton, Minnesota, Vancouver, Minnesota.
Nashville - finish playing Columbus, Columbus, Detroit, St. Louis, St.Louis, Chicago.
Edmonton - finish playing Minnesota, Minnesota, Colorado, Calgary, Calgary, Vancouver
Chicago - finish playing Columbus, St. Louis, Columbus, Detroit, Nashville, Detroit
Phoenix - finish playing San Jose, Los Angeles, San Jose, Dallas, Dallas, Anaheim

pretty clear the Yotes have the toughest games left... the Hawks go on a roll from here on out and some other teams burn out we could have a shot!

The remaining games are so crutial now. We literally have to win all of them. It sucks that the teams that we need to lose are all playing against each other. But as long as the hawks put up a nice win streak, they should be in good shape.

By the way, I was at the St. Louis game, gotta tell ya, probably the most exciting game I've been to this year. With that come back goal from Wiz, I litterally lost my voice for the rest of the day. Really fun game to attend.

Heres to the boys playing their hearts out for the remaining of the games, and clinching that much needed spot at the post season.

LETS GO HAWKS
