started out great in camp. not a lot of points in preseason but effort was there. maybe would have been kept because coaches loved him, but they had too many guys they didn't want to risk to waivers and they had to make room so sheppard didn't have to go back to juniors.
as a result kalus went to the AHL. its one of the worst farm teams in hockey, as a result he has not been lighting it up.
last i saw he had 7 goals and 8 assists in 35 games.
likely won't hit the NHL until next year, and the way MIN brings along young guys, he might spend the balk of next year in the A as well.
a lot depends on what MIN does at the trade deadline and with their UFA players.
How has Kalus been doing? Just wondering, im loving the trade more and more every day
How are you loving this trade more and more? We have a goalie with a 4mil cap hit who will not play at all this year...and will likely be the most expensive in the NHL back-up next year. Even if Kalus has not developed as well as many B's fan expected, including me, I will never love this trade...a 6th round pick would have ben too much for the cap hit we are receiving for nothing.

Bruins fans are down on Manny Fernandez. Apparently they didn't see him play last year and know he is a good goalie. When Manny gets healthy again they will realize that he is a good goalie. Of course Bruins fans are ready to discarde him before they seem him play more than 6 games. This is the same town that thought Jon Casey was a crappy goalie.

1993-94 Boston Bruins NHL 57 2.88 30 15 9 0.881
Looking at those numbers, the word crappy does come to mind.
It was a dumb trade on the Bruins' part. They gave up a 20 yr old with a lot of potential for a 30+ year old goalie with known knee problems. The Bruins got hosed on that deal big time.
Hello everyone. I'm a Habs fan, and I must admit I was really glad to see Kalus being traded from the Bruins to your wonderful organization. I saw the kid as sure fire 1st liner oozing of skill and speed and I was really dreading having to face him 8 times a year. I just lately went to see how the kid was doing in the AHL, and was really surprised with his poor stats as he did really well in Boston in the few games he played in the NHL.
It's been a month since this thread has been updated, so I was wondering if anybody had any views on his potential. Will he become a regular point producer or will he be stuck as a 3rd liner since his scoring touch doesn't seem to translate very well as of late.
I've also been wondering about Kalus' play. Only 17 points in 47 games, I definately would have thought he would have faired better. Any insight on his game from anyone who has been able to see him play regularly would be appreciated?

My apologies for a slow response. Coming into the season, I had very high hopes to see Kalus producing and eventually play his way into a Wild sweater. To be brutally honest, he hasn't played well most of the time I've seen him.
Now, it should be noted that I can only make it to Aeros HOME games, and can only listen to the occasional road broadcast. This is important to note because over the last two months, the Aeros have played exceptional hockey on the road and very mediocre at home. As such, my views on some of these players will always be an incomplete body of work based on seeing them in person half the time, but I'll still try to give any insight I can. Now, back to Kalus...
Most of the time I've seen him (he has been scratched a few games for reasons I don't know, so it could have easily been an injury and not just being in the coach's doghouse), he has skated hard, played hard, and throws his body around juuuust enough to stay out of the dreaded "finesse" player category. He isn't particularly strong on the puck, but can make up for that occasionally with his slick stickhandling. However, the nifty stick moves tend to get him in trouble as he will hold on to the puck too long and turns the puck over a little too often.
One thing he does have that stands out is his consistent effort night in and night out, at least offensively. As is the case with many young players who are very talented offensively, Kalus tends to let his defensive guard down at times and will spend large chunks of time circling around and around and letting his defensive responsibility fall by the wayside. It's frustrating to watch, but it's something he'll get better at if he focuses on it.
Now, the juicy part of Kalus. His goal scoring ability is very, very obvious. His quick release is combined with above average accuracy to provide a good scoring threat everytime he's int he offensive zone. These skills should translate to being a good powerplay performer when he leaves the blackhole that is the Aeros PP unit. He's a creative scorer with an obvious thirst for putting points on the board. When he gets the puck deep in the offensive zone, he begins imposing his will. This can be a detriment, as he will occasionally get tunnel vision and forget to look for his teammates, but when he does, he's a machine.
Overall, the numbers haven't come for Kalus this year, partially because the Aeros as a whole seem to be offensively challenged. In time, like with Pouliot, there's a force to be reckoned with in Kalus and with the remainder of this year to continue his development, I think he's on the path to being a good NHLer.

thank you sir-
Would you want to tell us about other guys, like Stoner, Irmen, Belle, Clutterbuck, etc.?
You seem like you are really tuned in, and it would be interesting to get your take on the rest of the Baby Wild...

Yeah, I'll be more than happy to write up any thoughts I have on any players you guys want. I don't really navigate the forums all that well, so if somebody gives me a place with a request for a prospect, I'll definitely help out.
