Toronto and New York Islanders Proposal

I mentioned this in the Big Deal thread but there was no real response on it so i was wondering with all the trade talk that has been going around in the past few days i would like to bring up an idea. Even though it has been proposed a number of times in the past and as soon as you guys seen the thread title you probably thought of McCabe. So here is my proposal!

NYI - McCabe, Ponikarovsky
TOR - Hunter, Tambellini, MA Bergeron, 2nd

There have also been a few rumors of Colorado needing a big shot from the point so send MAB to Colorado for Brad Richardson.

With these deals Toronto picks up a solid 2nd-3rd liner and 2 young players with potential, and i would see the line-up lookin something like this(with everyone healthy of course)

Wellwood - Sundin - Blake
Bell - Antropov - Hunter
Tlusty - Stajan - Steen
Tucker - Kilger - Devo

Kaberle - Kubina
Coli - Stralman
Gill - White
Woz, Kronwall

Toskala
Raycroft

This also gives the Leafs cap space and they could possibly deal for a better left winger and a solid defenseman such as Boyton for Raycroft deal with whatever else needed to get it done. But tell me what you guys think and how far off i am on value(and yes i do know that McCabe has a no movement clause, but the main thing i would like to know about is the value, thanks)

I like McCabe alot more than MAB, who in my opinion is significantly worse defensively than McCabe, but due to salary considerations, I'd definitely take this trade, and then probably try to trade MAB for someone who is defensively responsible. I don't know a ton about Hunter or Tambellini, but I feel like their trade value is somewhat similar to Poni's? As far as I know, Hunter is a 2nd/3rd line quality power forward, and Tambellini a player with offensive potential who probably needs a bit more time to develop?
Also, might want to switch welly and antro on your proposed lines. Welly is fairly useless as a winger.

This trade doesn't serve much of a purpose for us, or for the Islanders I'd think.

yeah this trade makes no sense, mccabe for bergeron is brutal and poni for hunter isnt very good either, just not a trade that helps out either team

i dont like proposals on boards for some reason, i guess because you spent all that time and this is never gonna happen, none of these trades will ever happen

i chalk it down to false hope, which is all we have with jfj

Getting Bryan McCabe off the books is never a bad thing when you consider how much he costs us. Hunter, Tambellini, MA Bergeron, 2nd is not bad value imo. Hunter has more talent then Poni imo , Tambellini could potentially be a really good player and would fit nicely with some of youth. the second rounder is just another bonus and could get us something decent. Only thing is this trade is someones dreamed up fantasy and probably never crossed either GM's mind.

Ya no doubt eh! Well thanks for the feedback guys and yeah proposals on here have rarely ever been true or even close for that matter but for people like me i guess we like to know some value and hope that it will improve the teams. It would be more beneficial if the Islanders didn't sign Berard but he is coming back from injuiry in a week or two.

i noticed you left out Tambellini and MA out of your lineup but of coursae i would not do this deal because i see a littler more in poni and when mccabe comes back it will defintly help the team and another reson this wont happen JFJ is on a 1 year deal he isnt going to be rebuilding with young players and picks its the exact opposite. thats why i say dont be suprised if the likes of kuelmin or stralman and picks are traded at the deadline for vets

I'd do it. Anything to get rid of McCabe.

I like Tambellini, and Hunter is adequate. Giving up Poni would hurt a little, but I'd say we definitely win this trade hands down.

As an Islanders fan we do not do this trade.

Sure we want to get rid of MAB but not Tambi and Hunter.

Tambellini is our 2nd best prospect and has 30 goal seasons in his future (I dont see it, but it does mean his value is somewhat high). Hunter although a UFA next year is part of the core of this team and could be considered the heart of the team. Also the third most tenured Islander which really is a pretty big deal. Not to mention he is severly underrated by the rest of the league which will let us sign him with ease.

McCabe isnt nearly as bad as you all make him out but he is not worth the money he gets. Another + for McCabe is that he seems to like the LI area. Regardless this is not happening.

ANd the second rounder is just ridiculous if anything you all should be giving us a second rounder.

If you want we could just switch bad contracts: McCabe for Sutton and teir two prospect or a 2nd to 4th round pick.

Tell you what. throw in steen and you got yourself a deal. this deal is more than helping your leaf team out. this deal helps your team clear out $5,200,000 from the salary cap. if we are going to help you guys clear out that much space we will want more coming back to us. so adding steen to that deal would help. then this will give your team room to sign forsberg.

A note to all leaf fans that say this deal does not help them out my answer to that is you are not looking at the big picture by saying that. adding forsberg helps your team out tremendously.

I disagree. Forsberg is always injured.

As an Islanders fan it looks decent on paper although i would hate losing Hunter(who is a UFA this summer). Our defense is missing a top 2 defenseman and while there many others i would prefer over McCabe he would be a huge upgrade on MAB. That being said i would much rather have Kubina who i think would be a perfect fit for our defense.

I don't think Toronto does it though because Hunter's contract which has 1 year left unless they really want to unload McCabe

How about McCabe for NYI 2008 1st and 2nd rounder

Although acquiring a family member would be nice and all, I'd rather have Brendan Witt come back our way.

That could make Leafs top 9 forwards look like

Blake ---- Sundin ---- Antropov
Bell ------Wellwood -- Satan
Poni ----- Stajan ---- Steen

and a checking line with spare parts like Kilger and Devo ..

and if Tlusty remains up then Poni ---- Kilger --- Devo could be that unit..
