Even before his “fight” last game I was thinking about how Mara was playing with more of an edge to his game. In the pre season & in the first few regular season games He seemed to be making a point of playing tougher. I like that. Paul is a big guy with a bomb of a shot & he plays a simple yet effective game. NY doesn’t really have a bruiser on the blue line & by no means is Mara a player to be feared for his physical game but he is clearly playing with more of edge this season. Some folks out there blamed his personal agenda (attacking Patrick Kaleta) as a reason for the loss to the Sabres. That is short sighted. How could #27 ever stand up for a teammate if he wouldn’t stand up for himself? Mara not only proved he wanted to be a Ranger during the free agent period this past summer, He is proving on the ice nightly.
btw. ever notice that before every period Paul is the 1st player out of the room to greet & pump up his fellow Rangers? He’s also the last on the ice after all his teamates have entered the rink. It may not be a silly dance (Hollweg) but at least his 5 min major was for sticking up for himself not hitting a man from behind.
