I will be moving to Italy soon (Florence).

Any chance of catching some games somewhere? playing somewhere?

Even if by train to Switzerland, or Austria if i have to. Otherwise, i might suffer severe withdrawls.

not quite sure what you mean by "which period." are you refering to a hockey period, or a period of time?

I mean the period you will be here in Italy in order to send you a schedule related to the matches in Italy and Switzerland. ;)

ah, ok.

I will be in italy from Sept thru May, so i am hoping to catch some games.

I'm hoping not to travel too far if needed, but i wouldn't mind traveling to somewhere, like say, Prague, by a nice train ride.

Thanks for any info you can share.

Nice Florence is Beautifull but your gonna miss NA hockey. I went to Italy for 2 months and I couldn't stand it. No one knew about hockey and if you say anything about it, the freack out.

I lived in Gaeta, Italy off and on for two years. Stationed on US Navy's Sixth Fleet command ship. Heading north, there is hockey played in Torino (Turin), Bolzano, and I would think Milano. Bolzano is a neat little town that has hosted international hockey in recent years. The locals mostly speak German, though you can get by in either Italian or English as well.
Since you are spending the winter, I strongly recommend taking a train through the Alps into Switzerland. While you are doing that, a great place to stop off is Davos, Switzerland. Fantastic skiing there and a neat little ice arena where their local team plays. I saw them play a game against a squad from Zurich. Joe Thornton has signed to play for Davos this season, if the NHL isn't an option.
As for travel, don't worry about straying to far, it's much easier to travel in Europe, using the trains. The distances are shorter and trains more efficient, though the Italians like to hold brief impromptu strikes. Going from Florence to Switzerland is comparable to traveling from New York to Philadelphia, it really is easy to get around, and you should take advantage of the chance to see the area as much as you can.

@ Skroob

The Italian schedule.
On the left you've the months (Settembre ---> September etc. etc.)

http://www.hockeytime.net/calendario/index.php?date=regolamento

From Florence you've a train for Milano, Bolzano or Varese.
I suggest you to wait to go to Torino till January or February because the Olympic Arena isn't still built. Actually they're playing in a small crumbling Arena (capacity 1.000).

Ciao.
