Team 1040 in Vancouver reports that the Vancouver WHA franchise is in negotiations with JR. Roenick has confirmed that they have talked.

is he going to come out and say he was "just joking" like he did with the Phoenix stuff?

Maybe it's in case of a lockout?

Of course it's in case of a lockout, JR has two more years on his contract, he won't play in the WHA unless there's no NHL season.

For a guy with nearly double digit concussions, playing hockey in another league, where the money isn't anywhere near the 7.5 per season he gets in Philly is complete insanity.

The guy should follow other vets like Scott Niedermayer and Joe Sakic who plan on resting if there is a lockout.

They were talking on the radio like he was staying there.

Roenick might be a moron, but he's no idiot (there's your Yogi Berra-ism of the day). The WHA can't pay him more, and if there is a lockout it would be for the better for him not to play given his health. It's just talk, but it's not cheap... IF other big name players (let's not get into whether or not JR is a big name player, he is in the eyes of the media and that's what matters for this point) start taking his stance, it *could* put some pressure on the CBA negotiations. I doubt it, but it's not out of the realm of possibility.

I'm confident that no NHL lockout = WHA folds, so pretty much every contract negotiation for the WHA should be considered "in the event of a lockout".

He's already stated that the two other teams he would like to, or would have liked to is Vancouver or Toronto. Said that a couple years back.

Whats the sense in trading a fresh young centreman that makes half the $$$ that the concust Roenick makes?
