Thanks, edited Vodden out.
goteam 08-05-2004, 10:57 PM Don't expect McLaughlin to stick as a 20 year-old backup to Justin Pogge.
With the acquisition of Idema, I expect Moulton to be traded or released.
The three overagers for the Cougars this season should be Idema, Filewich and Lapointe.
Will McLaughlin be attending the Cougars training camp? Cause I've removed players the team has announced would not even be attending training camp (ie. Jon Cara with the Blades).
Upchuck19 08-06-2004, 10:36 AM Look for Kelowna three overagers to be Moisenko, Palin and Deschamps. Word around hockey insiders is that Phoenix wants Gelech in the AHL next year. I was really hoping Randall would come back for one more year, but wait and see?
goteam 08-06-2004, 10:52 AM I'd love to be the Vancouver Giants' shoes right now trying to narrow down their overagers. Marsh, Thompson, Appleby, Courchaine, Grant, Morris --- yikes!
Pedrostallion1 08-06-2004, 11:30 AM As for Kootenay...
Glenn Olson is gone, signed a contract with San Jose and should be in the AHL or ECHL next year.
Travis Featherstone has retired and will concentrate on school
That leaves us with three overagers in Adam Taylor, Martin Sagat and James Cherewyk.
I would not be suprised to see Tyrell Moulton end up in Cranbrook with the ICE, local boy, would improve our back line and provide the toughness we so desperately need. Have to think that Adam Taylor would be the guy who takes the axe should Moulton come to town.
As for Vancouver, Sorochan is an overager as well but with Schwarz I would imagine he would be released or traded. That gives Van. 7 o/a's.....going to be a young team this year but with a couple solid Euro's and Brule they could do some damage.

After watching the first home exhibition game it is tough to tell who to hold onto between Gio and Deschamps. Gio reminds me of a poor mans Duncan Keith. Small, fast, good shot, lacked physical play and wasnt overly great defensively. Deschamps was Deschamps, always looking lost and rushing things rather then slowing them down and controlling the puck.
mazmin 09-12-2004, 08:23 PM Adam Couchaine will be back with Vancouver. BrandonSun was the source.
Canadian Chris 09-12-2004, 08:38 PM I would like to see the Cats go after Rob Woods now that he's been released. I would REALLY like that
salostyle 09-12-2004, 10:32 PM GIO has ties to the Kelowna organization too. He was the backbone of the Kindersley Jr. Klippers' defense in the SJHL a couple years back and none other than Kelly Guard was in the pipes. They lost to a powerful OCN Blizzard team (MJHL) in the Anavet Cup.
Rockets fans will grow to love GIO, he was a fan favourite on and off the ice in Klipper country, I think he is more of a poor man's Thomas Slovak. It was exhibition and if he thinks/knows he has a spot on the roster he may have laid off the physical play a bit, not that is the way he is (mentality wise), but it is hard to go all out in the pre-season if you got a spot locked up.
He is no Scott Stevens in disguise, don't get me wrong, but he will throw his weight around more when things get serious...one of those 'when the going gets tough the tough get going' type guys.

I was sent an article in the Vancouver Province which covers this. So I guess it is true. Also by the looks of the article, the Giants aren't expecting last year's captain, Tyson Marsh, to return from the Toronto Maple Leafs system.
Because the Province is subscription based online, here's the key part from the article about Marsh:
With Courchaine confirmed for this year, it does firm up at least one of the team's three overage spots.
Another would undoubtedly go to defenceman Tyson Marsh, but the team captain is expected to catch on in the Toronto Maple Leafs farm system.

The Klippers, coming off an appearence/embarrassment in the Royal Bank Cup Final, beat the North Battleford North Stars 6-3 and 5-4 in a home and home affair this past weekend.

http://www.winterhawks.com/
The Portland Winter Hawks announced today that they have dropped 20-year-old forward Robin Big Snake from their playing roster.
“We realize this will come as a surprise,” said Portland Coach Mike Williamson, who made the final decision. “What happens in the dressing room of a hockey team stays in the dressing room of a hockey team, but we had an issue following Sunday night’s game that I felt could not be resolved. The team as a whole is the most important part of what all of us are doing. I feel to have any chance to win in this league, we as a team have to all be pulling in the same direction. It was apparent to me this could not happen with Robin on our team.”
“I want Robin and all the fans to know how much we appreciated the good things he did, on and off the ice, during his time with the Winter Hawks,” Williamson added. “He really enjoyed being with the fans at our team functions, was really good with kids and always went over and above when he was in that venue. And, when Robin is team focused on the ice, he can be an asset to any hockey team. But, for whatever reason, we were unable to get Robin to channel his competitiveness and talent, which are two of his biggest assets, in the right direction. Unfortunately, I felt he was a distraction to what we need to do as a team and Sunday night it got to the point where I had to act.”
Portland General Manager Ken Hodge spent Monday trying to trade Big Snake to another team in the WHL, but was unsuccessful. Williamson felt that he had to deal with this issue before the Hawks took to the ice to practice today in Memorial Coliseum. So, he told Big Snake this morning of the team’s decision. Big Snake is going back to Alberta pending further developments.
“Perhaps part of the reason Robin was having trouble here is he may have been focused on his pro hockey career instead of making the Winter Hawks his top priority,” Williamson said. “I can understand that, to some extent. He apparently had a terrific camp at Hartford and nearly signed a contract because they saw all the positive things we see day in and day out with Robin.”
“I believe he is going to have to come to grips with what makes any hockey team successful. No matter what level of hockey he plays, and we hope he has a great career, I think he is going to have to learn some things and realize he needs to make some changes. Hopefully, when he reflects on what happened here, he will make those changes. If he does, in my opinion, he can be a big part of whatever team he plays for next, be it in our league, or in pro hockey.”

well, that suxors, but it's not entirely surprising.
BigSnake did 'whine' himself out of Vancouver when he believed he should have had more ice time...he wanted to be more of a rusher than a crusher to enhance his draft chances. Once he started whining about his role, out he went.

I doubt they will keep both Monych and Konsorada around, because their defense needs all the help it can get and therefore will have to keep both Later and Blanchette (although Blanchette isn't that great). Going to be great seeing Monych back (for however many games that might be for).

I think they should keep both of them around if they can't get a substantial return for Monych in a trade. He is far too good a player to be traded for a third round bantam pick or something like that. You said it, Blanchette is a plug, I'd much rather see them keep Later/Konsorada/Monych.

Well, we got our wish - going to be awesome watching Monych fly down the wing for the rest of the year. Konsorada seems like a completely different player having Monych with him - sure he had lots of points before, but they were all on the power play. Now we have two great forward lines, together with Sandell and Reaves (who are both going to improve drastically before the end of the year) playing together on the 3rd or 4th line. Hopefully our young defence can show some good improvement with the increased playing time. I agree completely with your comment re: Blanchette - I actually posted something quite similar on the Wheaties board and got blasted - I think it might have been a Blanchette relative. Nothing against the kid as he was a hard worker, but he just doesn't have the talent to take up a 20 year old position.
Canadian Chris 10-27-2004, 01:42 PM Well, Blanchette now WON'T be taking up a 20 year old spot with the Cougars as it appears he won't be reporting to them.
He apparently signed on with.....Camrose in the AJHL, and will be going there to play out the year.
So....that means the cougars get their 6th round pick by...likely, and will still be looking for an Overager to fill that whole.
