A year ago he was looked at or viewed in alot higher regard than he seems to be viewed in now.
A couple of questions...is his size the thing that is keeping him out of your teams top 20?
And not to knock on your prospects because you have some very good ones, but up until this trade deadline and draft year your cupboard was kind of bare in terms of depth. I would think that a guy with his scoring ability would be able to crack your top 10 before this draft.
What gives?
What is his realistic shot at ever making the NHL and playing regularly? I realize that with his size comes alot of questions, but does he have an NHL level skill set and speed? I mean is it only a lack of size that is holding him back?
The Pens have a guy like that (Ben Eaves, brother of Patrick) who is very small but has NHL speed, skill, heart and grit. He should be able to overcome his size concerns because of this. Is Dawes in roughly the same boat? Will his other assets help him overcome his size?
Thanks.

can't say i know a TON about him but he definatly has goal scoring skill and was a real standout in the WJC's last year for canada. from what i know he doesn't have outstanding speed (not that he's a bad skater) but he's more shifty and quick than speedy.
but yeah his size is a big factor and i don't think he's a real gritty rough and tumble player to make up for it...i don't think he's scared of getting into traffic and all but whether he's really aggressive enough to make up for his size, i think that's the unknown
i like him a lot but i think it's too early to tell how he'll translate into the NHL...he got in a few AHL games at the end of last year and the consensus is that he didn't look too great, but that could be for various reasons as well

I have been following him since we got him. I think he is great. The first time I've really seen him play was at the world jrs. and he played great. I'd love to see him with the wolf-pack this year.

he's still not 20 this year so he won't be able to play in the AHL yet...the whole canadian juniors agreement with the AHL. its' either juniors or the NHL, and he's not ready for the NHL...likely another year at kootenay and then a year in hartford to see where he's at
he seems like a pure sniper though and i love that about his game...some of the goals he scored in the WJC were great. if canada had won the gold, i think he would have won MVP over parise

if you are talking about the top 20 list on the rangers page of HF then that list is greatly outdated and hasn't been changed in some time...
a few weeks ago there were a series of polls done on this board to come up with a top 25 ranking and dawes finished 13th in those polls

Nigel Dawes is probably the most underrated prospect we have. I have seen Dawes play several times and he looks like a potential NHL player to me. His speed is very good, not blinding, but he is extremely strong on the puck. He has great hockey sense and his shot is awesome. The one attribute that he has that makes me confident that he will be a player in the NHL some day is his determination, the guy competes and he hates to lose. He is small by NHL standards, but I don't see that getting in the way. At this point he will probably need 2 years or so before he plays with the Rangers.
Thanks.

people are a lot more higher on our other intriguing prospects, I agree that Dawes does get shafted a bit because of his size despite him having a better track record and probably being the better prospect at this point and time but you should not underestimate our depth because it is more then likely you would not know much about these guys given they are not prospects you follow or can research with much insight being available
