Young Eric Chouinard UFA

The Wild bought out the contract of struggling center Eric Chouinard, clearing about $500,000 off the payroll and more space for prospects to earn a forward job at training camp. They exercised a similar clause on Houston Aeros goalie Johan Holmqvist, who was let go to make room for promising prospect Josh Harding.

Id take a chance with this guy. He is young, big and fast. I wont be surprised if Rangers signed him cause he is a centre. And he has played with Grenier and MacMillan in the past. And you know how Sather likes players who played together. I think its worth the risk.

If he was young, big, and fast he'd already be playing for somebody else.

I like Eric Chouinard i think he can be a good player and i would definitely take a chance with him because we simply have no one else and he could end up a good 3rd line center

lol.

How did the Flyers aquire Chouinard?

(I don't think it has to do with Gagne, does it)?

29-Jan-03: Montreal Canadiens traded Eric Chouinard to the Philadelphia Flyers for a 2nd round selection (Maxim Lapierre) in 2003.

17-Dec-03: Philadelphia Flyers traded Eric Chouinard to the Minnesota Wild for a 5th round selection in 2004.

He's saying that because the Canadians drafted him over Gagne in the 1998 draft.

I never have liked players who stand 6'3" and play like 5'3". They never, ever seem to work out.

He took a gamble and it didnt pay off. Big deal. Second round picks are more often than not a bust anyway.

Holik's already in the lineup, so, we've got 3 spots which could be filled by Lundmark, D. Moore, Helminen and Betts, to name just 4.

I disagree.

A few things on Chouinard.

#1. IMo he's better on the wing than at center.

#2. He needs to play in a scoring role. He's not going to help you on a 3rd or 4th line ... he's not horrible defensively, but needs to be used in a scoring role.

#3. For my money if you put both Chouinard and Lundmark on a 2nd line with some capable linemates Chouinard would give you better production.

Kind of like trading Johnsson, Brendl and Hlavac ..... and now having nothing in return ......

I don't see the two deals being comparable. The Flyers have Johnsson and the Rangers have nothing 3 years later. (I am aware of the players you received for Brendl & Hlavac). The player the Rangers received did at least play parts of 3 seasons. Trading a 2nd and getting a 5th back shortly thereafter can not be compared to the Lindros trade.
