Chicago Cubs:

- Carlos Zambrano was given a 5-game suspension for intentionally throwing at Jim Edmonds twice during his start against the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday.

- LaTroy Hawkins was given a 3-game suspension for inappropriate comments and actions toward the umpire after giving up a home run to Albert Pujols in the 9th inning of the Cards/Cubs game on Tuesday.

No word on whether or not they will appeal.

The suspensions are all justified and I doubt an appeal will make any difference.

What I thought was ridiculous was in a game between Boston and Anaheim, Lackey threw at a Red Sox player. Both benches were warned.

Then, after that, Schilling threw at an Angel (Bengie Molina) and wasn't kicked out of the game. Scoscia argued and he was ejected. Don't understand that. :dunno:

They usually drop a game with an appeal and the players still get to play untiul the appeal is heard.

For Ortiz, it will mean he can play this weekend. I agree about the justification. Watching the tandrum he threw - regardless of what happened during his "discussion" with the home plate umpire - was embarrassing.
