I'm just wondering, how would a lock-out effect hockey in your country?
In Britain I don't think it will have any impact on either the EIHL (Elite League) or FBNL (British National League), I don't see any NHLers coming to Britain to play. The impact that I think a long lock-out (say 3/4 of a season or more) is with the TV deal. currently in Britain 2 NHL games are shown on free to air television (Channel 5) and several on a subscription-obly channel that covers all North American sport (NASN). A long lock-out will, I think, have the effect of stopping Channel 5 from showing the NHL, making it very unlikely people will discover the NHL in Britain.
How do you think the lock-out will impact hockey in your country?
Tronador 07-21-2004, 03:33 PM There are several NHL-players, who decide to play in Switzerland, Austria and Germany, but i think most of them probably in Russia(Gonschar and so on), in case of the lock-out.
Mike York will sign a contract with Iserlohn Roosters(DEL), Dennis Seidenberg(Philad.Flyers) wants to play for Cologne with his younger brother Yannick, Marco Sturm for Ingolstadt and Hecht will also come home.
What about Butenschön???No idea..

york already signed a contract. seidenberg to cologne is not sure yet, because he wanted to play for mannheim but noboby contacted him. but he has yet to sign a contract. sturm to ingolstadt is nothing but a rumor. he said that he would even consider playing in switzerland. the latest rumor about him is nuernberg. hecht is rumored to praha (czech), but it's likely that he'll end up in mannheim. butenschon...hmm...i think he'll stay in the AHL like goc, schubert and paetzold.

Seidenberg is supposed to play for the Phantoms if there is a lockout. The Flyers want to keep him in Philly after his bad injury.

dennis and his father said something completely different several times, so i wonder if this could cause trouble in philly.
and honestly, seidenberg in germany would bring him and german hockey much more. and i'm sure he knows it.

I second that.
Dennis and his father both said, that they are looking for a place in the DEL.
At the moment the Cologne Haie are the frontrunners, cause brother Yannic will play for the Haie and Cologne has contacted him.
After he told the press about those facts rumours around Mannheim stated, that the Adler Mannheim have had talks with Dennis, too.
Seidenberg is not interested in playing in Mannheim - he´s interested in playing, he never mentioned Mannheim that much. He said, that it woulb be okay to come back, but he a Schwenningen guy and has no special relationship (or a relationship being that big).
I´m sure Seidenberg will play DEL and i´m sure that he´ll play for Cologne or Mannheim - the obvious "fight".

AHL hockey has not the quality of the DEL. But the big clubs want their best prospects either in the juniors or in the minors and not in Europe. The Flyers do the same.

the AHL should be better than the DEL if it comes to skill, but the DEL is loaded with experienced player where seidenberg really can learn from. he would even get a lot of ice-time.
as long as there is no NHL season, there's no need to have him in the minors.
Sanderson 08-01-2004, 03:33 PM Well, I think he would get way more icetime in the AHL, just like last season.
He would likely be the no.1 or no.2 in Philly, because their main goal ist to develope talents. Cologne and Mannheim try to win the championship and are loaded with lots of good defensemen.
In the end, the Flyers will decide. If they want him to play for the Phantoms, he will play there, because he is under contract.
According to Inge Hammarström (european chief scout) the staff thinks Seidenberg is ready for the NHL now and doesn't need further developement on the farm.
