My obvious homer pick is the Rangers...dead ass last for 3 years in a row, and now 2 1/2 games in front of a division that includes Oakland and Anaheim. Showalter should run away with Manager of the Year, with Lou Piniella second.

But the AL Central sucks, hell the Tigers are 5.5 GB, the Indians 4.5 and both below .500. It's easier to win the Central than to win the AL Wild Card; Detroit is 6.5 GB and Cleveland is 5.5 GB of Oakland.

Rangers. I knew when they beat the Angels 3 out of 4 at the beginning of the season that they were for real. Then again, beating the Angels this year is no big feat. :rolleyes: Tough to look on the bright side when your team is that disappointing.

They are still hovering around .500, and in contention for a playoff spot when they were expected to lose 100 games. I dont care how weak the division is, being in contention when expected to suck is a surprise. Are you trying to say because the central is weak that the Royals werent a surprise last year :shakehead

It's surprising for the Tigs because of how horrible they were last season, they finished with a .264 winning %, Cleveland at .420. So far this year, Detroit is at .478, Indians at .489. Marginal improvement for the Indians, huge improvement for the Tigs. But the division still sucks considering that teams can bouce from the basement to near the top from one year to the next, and the 1st place Central team would be in 3rd place in any other division in the AL, based on current stats.

The Tigers also improved in the off-season. I'm not saying they are more surprising than Detroit, but to not even include them?

I didnt think this team was for real until the other night against Toronto.....Miguel Batista is throwing a gem, like 3 hits allowed through 7 innings..bottom of the 8th, Rangers score 2 to make it 5-3, and have 2nd and 3rd 0 out. Blalock and Soriano both pop up, and Im thinking well there goes there chance...Fullmer then walks, and my boy Teixiera blasts a fastball(right down the middle) into the bullpen in center field....up until then, I still figured they would die out sometime over this summer, but now I dont think thats gonna happen.

I say the Cardinals, they were being overlooked in the central by the Cubs and Astros and they've found some pitcing out of nowhere. And there's that Pujols guy too :) .

Easily the Rangers. Who'd have thought they would lead the AL West, especially after they traded A-Rod for Fonso?

I;m gonna throw a homer vote for the Tigers. Cleveland has been a nice suprise, same with the Devil Rays. The Rangers have had a great group of young talented hitters. But the Pitching has been so much better than anyone would have thought.

I picked Rangers, but the DRays were close.

The AL central is rather fishy data. Neither the Indians or the Tigers have played the Twins or White Sox almost at all this year, and are going into stretches where thats just about all of who theyll play for the rest of the year. The Indians were shutout 2 games in a row by the Sox, so i think theyll fall completely out of contention in a few weeks

The heart of their lineup is as good as any Pujols-Rolen-Edmonds

And they are getting great pitching from the not expected people(Morris and Williams) with Carpenter and Marquis.

They are the team to beat this year!
