Could this be the start of more NHL-signings in the austrian league?
I wonder how much NHL-stars demand if they are going to play in a european league...
ALF AmericanLionsFan 07-18-2004, 10:03 AM Where did you get this info from? :dunno:

It's listed on http://www.eurohockey.net/.
Austrian Newspapers are also reporting it.

hmm...possibly, but still i don't consider the austrian league as a good league. maybe your league is on the rise like your hockey is. would be nice, but still a long way to go. i've seen a few games last season and it was entertaining, but not a good hockey.
where would divis, pöck and the others play in case of a lockout?

I'd say, the best austrian teams would be somewhere around the average teams in the DEL, but that's speculation. The league definitly is on the rise, the problem is, that teams who have money are able to buy the title buy signing some big name players. (This year: Vienna Capitals: Chabot, Wren, Craig...) This leads to reduced or no ice time for the young austrian players what hurts the league and the national team long term. It's not as bad as it already was, young players get their chance in the first league. I hope times, where the austrian league consisted of 4 teams because all other financially crashed are over once and for all.
The league is entertaining, because it is very physical. But the skill level is getting better with each passing year and there are less fights.
To have some NHL cracks playing in the league for some weeks would make it more attractive and the austrian players would have somebody to learn from.
Brandner has stated, that he will play in the AHL if an NHL lockout occurs. I don't know about the others, but I doubt that any of them will come back to play in Austria.

at least the alpen liga or however it was called is history. a strong austrian league would be good for european hockey.
with reduced ice-time for youngsters it looks like the austrian league will go the same route the german league went a few years ago. but maybe they will realize that taking care of the youth is one of the important things if you want a good league.

the DEL was better with fights and the skill level stayed around the same for years. so try to keep your fighting, it is what brings you a good attendance.

do you have a foreigner restriction? in the DEL we have 11+1 and that's why not many NHLers will come here, because a NHLer would take one spot even if he would just play a few weeks.

good move by brandner. he has the will to become a NHLer. pöck should also stay in the AHL. but divis should try to play in another pro-league, so he should return to europe, maybe austria.

When I was talking about reduced ice time for young players, I talked about the Vienna Capitals. They have a lot of expierienced players and I doubt they will give their young players because they are forced to win next season (very high payroll). However, they still have some young promising talent in Manuel Latusa or Mario Altmann. Around the league, the teams focus more on their youth. KAC, VSV and Graz are the best in developing young players, but all the other teams have young lineups with austrian players.

It also brings a bad reputation. And the National Team always had problems with international refs because they played too tough...

In the Austrian league 5 foreigners are allowed. If VSV really gets Morrison, they would have to move one of their other foreigners off their lineup.

Maybe Leksands is keen to get Divis back :)
Hellström 07-20-2004, 05:24 PM Is Kent Salfi still in Austria ??
I´ve seen him in Timmendorf back in the 90s, i was impressed with his play. I thought, that he´d be a decent player in the DEL, but he left for Austria.
Daniel Gauthier and Rick Nasheim still around ?

Salfi is here. He is with Blackwings Linz, but wants out. He also played for Austria in the WC.
Nasheim has retired, don't know about Gauthier.

my opinon => salfi go to vienna. no one here in linz need a Mercenary like you
