cycle_it 07-11-2004, 09:10 PM towards the end of this season he was rarely dressed out...and usually in an end zone with a watchful eye on the game.
could he be working towards a coaching career?
I have no idea how this stuff works.
would they be willing to sign a player who is useful sometimes....in order to help him ease into coaching.
also..he was not on any IR list during the time.
he was only put on one during the playoffs to make room on the bench.

October 7, 2004 FLORIDA ACQUIRES SCORER; THREE ASSIGNED Former UNH standout headed to Florida, Blades also receive three players from Lowell Estero, FL The Florida Everblades Head Coach Gerry Fleming announced today that Florida has acquired forward Jim Abbott from the Toledo Storm (ECHL) for cash. Last season, Abbott saw action with the Pensacola Ice Pilots and notched 32 points in 34 games. He also picked up 24 points in 35 contests with Toledo. Prior to his professional career, Abbott was a standout forward at the University of New Hampshire for four years and helped the Wildcats reach the NCAA championship game during his junior year. In related news, the Lowell Lock Monsters reassigned three players to the Blades this afternoon including goaltender Rob Zepp who went 14-13-7 last season for Florida, forward David Lundbohm, a prominent forward at the University of North Dakota the past four seasons and defenseman Jared Newman.

cycle_it 10-22-2004, 07:18 PM end of the second period 4-1 florida.....!
four different guys have scored.
this will be a great season.
and the blades take it with a 6-2 win!
chicpea* 10-23-2004, 08:30 PM Well, it was a tough 3-2 loss tonight, with Florida goalie Craig Kowalski really making his fans wonder if he even belongs in the ECHL. Three goals in 18 shots just would not cut the mustard against the Catter powerhouse who showed up at the Everblade Palace this evening in front of a moody crowd of nearly 7,000. In further disappointing news for Florida, fan-favourite Brandon Coalter's scoring streak was snapped after one game. Good effort guys.

chicpea* 10-29-2004, 09:15 PM Florida cleans up again this evening with yet another convincing win, this time 6-3 over mighty M.I.S.S.I.S.S.I.P.P.I. Damian Surma led the team, turning the trick and adding a helper for a grandiose four point evening, but there can be no denying the fact that Brandon Coalter's first period fisticuffs were the true inspiration for the victory. Way to go FLA! Such early league dominance is leading pundits to ask the universal question: 'Could the mighty Kelly Cup be within their grasp....?'
cycle_it 10-31-2004, 01:19 PM The Florida Everblades (3-2-0) lost to the Pensacola Ice Pilots (2-0-0) 5-4 on Saturday night at the Pensacola Civic Center. Despite a hat trick by Floridas Reggie Berg, the Ice Pilots capitalized on their power chances and three third period goals to pull out the win in their home opener. A high-paced first period saw the two teams fire a total of 26 shots on goal and each goaltender make several big saves. Rob Zepp for Florida and Frederic Cloutier for Pensacola both made several key saves in the period to keep the game scoreless after the first period.
http://www.floridaeverblades.com/everpre.asp?mse=2000&mit=1009
chicpea* 11-19-2004, 10:02 PM 60 Minutes, that's what it takes. Not 59, and certainly not 40. A brutal second period did the Blades in this evening, despite an heroic effort by fan-favourite backstopper, Newmarket, Ontario, Canada, native, Rob Zepp, who blocked 38 of 40 shots in a failing effort by his team who dropped a 2-0 match to Pee Dee this evening. A lacklustre offence, generating only 4 shots in the second could not cut the mustard tonight as Florida went 0 for 4 on the pp. Many disgruntled fans tonight will go to bed thinking "Where is Coalter when we need him?"
chicpea* 11-20-2004, 10:34 PM Down by two with only seven minutes remaining in the third, some dispirited members on the Everblade bench may have turned to prayer in a final bid of desperation. Not head coach, Gerry Fleming, though - he went to church. Brad Church that is, the steely veteran from northern Manitoba, who picked up his third and fourth goals of the season to tie the game with under four minutes left. Both goals came with help from teammate Tim O'Connell, and both seemed to energize the team even more as they prepared for overtime. There though, both goalies shone, blocking four a piece, as both teams eased off what had been a veritable shooting gallery through regulation time (73 shots combined). In the shootout though, mercurial Florida netminder, Craig Kowalski, sealed the door, saving all but one while letting his snipers take care of business for the win, a 5-4 victory - and more - vindication for last night's half-hearted effort. Pee Dee, on the other hand, had little to be Proud about tonight after learning the hard way that "a two goal lead is a dangerous lead, indeed." They may need to spend tomorrow morning in Sunday Service.
Congrats to Brad Church and the Everblades in a hard-fought battle and well-deserved victory.

TexSen 01-08-2005, 11:24 AM Thanks for the feedback. I just learned last week where he was playing so it is nice to have a little "scouting" report on how he is doing.
I'm guessing he's 3rd or 4th line.
Also noticed the 'blades have Shane Hnidy. I'm originally from Ottawa and have continued to follow the Sens after moving to Texas. I was a little disappointed they traded him to Nashville last year. Good to see him skating during the lock-out. He should add some fighting and grit to the backline.
I'll have to make a road trip to Beaumont when the blades come through Texas in Feb.
Thanks again for the scouting report. I'll check be checking the blades site once in a while to see how Chris is fairing.
Cheers!

cycle_it 01-25-2005, 01:28 PM Southwest Florida's premier sports franchise is on the verge of being sold less than eight months after nearly bringing a championship to the area.
Peter Karmanos Jr., the principal owner of the ECHL's Florida Everblades and owner of the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes, has put the Estero-based minor-league hockey team and the arena it plays in up for sale.
Mounting financial losses suffered by the Hurricanes in recent years is the primary reason, according to Everblades team president Craig Brush.
An interested buyer already has begun negotiations and is doing its due diligence paperwork for the purchase of the team and Germain Arena.
"They've completed a letter of intent and then there's a few more steps to go from there," Brush said Monday night. "The Everblades aren't going anywhere and the sale has absolutely nothing to do with the financial health of the team at this time."

cycle_it 02-10-2005, 11:58 PM Florida (25-14-6) is on a three-game winning streak and has gone 5-1-3 in its last 10 games to take a strong hold of second place in the South Division of the ECHL's American Conference.
Eight points separate the Everblades and first-place Pensacola (64-56) and they are six points ahead of third-place Gwinnett, the team they play Saturday night and again Tuesday night.
Losing both goaltenders Rob Zepp and rookie Craig Kowalski indefinitely to injuries could have made the Everblades vulnerable. Kowalski was moved to the 30-day injured reserve Wednesday with a groin injury to make room for veteran forward Brad Church (leg) on the 7-day IR.
Zepp (knee) also is on the 7-day IR and defenseman Jared Newman (concussion) is on the 30-day IR with forward Keith Anderson (shoulder). Anderson is expected to be taken off and possibly will play tonight.

Wildcatters also had Kreps in the lineup, freshly off a 40+ game stint with the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL and he noticed the difference in the prospects that are biding their time in the "E" only because the NHL lockout has caused a log jam at the AHL level.
Chris seems fairly mobile, good speed and a pretty heavy shot, some good moves on a breakaway during the game but the goalie made a great pad save.
Really enjoyed the game overall (my first ECHL game)......lots of flow, very few dump and chases, 55 shots for Florida in the game...very few whistles to break up the action. All in all very entertaining. I'll definitely be back to see a game or two.
cycle_it 03-14-2005, 03:44 PM hey.. that's pretty great texsen!
btw, Lee got the third game star saturday night. i think he got an assist, but i know he was on the ice for 4 on 4 play. moving right up i'd say.

Life as an expansion team is never easy, as the ECHL's Victoria Salmon Kings certainly can attest.
Facing a Florida Everblades team battling for one of the top seeds in the American Conference, the Salmon Kings were blown off the ice, 7-1, Tuesday night at Germain Arena.

cycle_it 03-19-2005, 08:08 PM The Florida Everblades (37-17-9) clinched a spot in the 2005 Kelly Cup Playoffs with a 2-0 victory over Greenville Grrrowl (33-24-5) on Saturday night at the BI-LO Center. cycle_it 04-07-2005, 11:32 AM Florida Everblades goaltender Tyler MacKay has been named the Sun National Bank ECHL Saver of the Month for March, the league announced today. MacKay finished March with a 9-1-0 record and a goals against average of 1.60, while posting a save percentage of .931.

Florida Everblades head coach Gerry Fleming announced today that the team has signed forward Jonas Fiedler to a contract. Fiedler comes to the Everblades after beginning the season with the Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League. The 20-year-old rookie skated in 61 games with the Whalers this season, notching 37 points (19g, 18a) and amassing 71 penalty minutes. Jonas is a Hurricanes draft pick that we feel is ready to showcase his abilities at the professional level. Fleming said Thursday. He is a strong skater and utilizes his size to fit the power forward role. The former 8th round draft pick by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2004 has spent the previous four years playing with Plymouth. In 255 career games with the Whalers, the native of the Czech Republic scored 131 points (52g, 79a). Fiedlers best season came in 2003-04 when he picked up 46 points in 63 games. In addition, Fielder has tallied 22 points in 33 career playoff games with the Whalers. Prior to the Hurricanes drafting Fielder, the San Jose Sharks selected the 6-foot-2 winger in the 3rd round of the 2002 NHL entry draft.

cycle_it 04-19-2005, 12:53 PM Is Hendricks Hurt? He's only played in one of the playoff games so far. does anyone know?
Hendricks underwent emergency surgery on his left leg Wednesday night at Gulf Coast Hospital in south Fort Myers after being diagnosed with acute compartment syndrome following a collision with South Carolina Stingrays defenseman Nate Kiser in the first period of Florida's 7-4 win in Game 1 of the ECHL American Conference quarterfinals at Germain Arena.
ACS develops when bleeding and swelling get in the way of proper blood circulation to the muscle and nerve tissues.
Hendricks continued to play and tried to fight through the pain again in the second period before being sent off the ice to the trainer's room, and that's when the seriousness of the injury became apparent.
"I wanted to stay on the bench in case I could play in the third, but if I wouldn't have come off you never know what would have happened," said Hendricks, who was placed on the seven-day injured reserve Friday. "By the time I got in here, took my gear off, put ice on it, jumped in the shower and sat down on the bench in the training room it was the most excruciating pain I've ever gone through in my life. Broken bones, sprains, cuts, lacerations on the face, broken nose, nothing even came close to it."
The decreased blood flow led to an increase in tissue pressure, which began to cause the muscles to tighten and contract. Hendricks said it felt like his leg was going to explode. He was taken out of the arena on a stretcher and rushed to the hospital.
Everblades team physician Michael Jugan performed the proce dure known as a fasciatomy after pressure readings of Hendricks' intracompartment came back higher than the threshold required for surgery.
The operation, which involves cutting open the connective tissue called the fascia that surrounds the muscles, is done to lessen the pressure and improve the blood flow to the area.
Dr. Michael Havig, a Naples orthopedic surgeon, said ACS is usually linked to severely broken or crushed bones commonly associated with car accidents or high-impact events.
"He had a traumatic injury and a lot of damage done to his muscle," Everblades trainer Todd Wisocki said. "It doesn't necessarily have to be a fracture. In his case, he had profuse bleeding in his quadricep."

The third period turned rough in the late stages when the two teams combining for 185 penalty minutes in the period, including Everblades goaltender Tyler MacKay getting a fighting major and a game misconduct. Overall the Everblades set an all-time playoff record for most penalty minutes in one game (91) and combined penalty minutes by both teams (197). MacKay earned his fourth win in the playoffs by stopping 31 shots faced, and Craig Kowalski who entered the game with 5:11 remaining in the game turned away the only shot he faced.

HORNBYFAN 11-18-2005, 12:42 PM have you been attending games? what's the word on our goaltending so far?
Yep, been to every home game so far. Going to tonight's game too, not sure about tomorrow's. We saw first hand the penalty the goalies can obtain when they leave the trapezoid and play around with the puck for delay of game. That was Kowalski, he has played in 3 games I think, while Osaer has the other 4. Osaer will be in net for us this weekend. He blocks some great shots, while it seems at other times he lets some soft ones get by. We haven't had any shutouts yet. We have the rest of the season though :handclap:
Race against NINE 11-25-2005, 09:35 AM Hey, HORNBYFAN, since you've been to all the home games, could you tell me how the Panthers' prospects with the Everblades have been playing? Lojek and Tuma especially (since the big team's so piss-poor on defense right now).

Acadmus, Lojek finally got his first game our third game into the season. He was a healthy scratch our first two games, and with injuries and call-ups he finally got his chance. I think he has played 5 or 6 games for us this season. In his first game, he got two assists. In his second game, he went to the defense of one of our small forwards (Steve Saviano), and was jumped by two Lynx players. In that game, he received fighting, and game misconduct penalties. He has 17 PIMs, I believe, and has one goal for the season on the power play so far. He makes his way up to the net with 10 SOG, and has three assists. He's one of our better players, seems like he stays on top of the opposing players pretty well. He was called up to the Amerks mid-November, and played one game with them before he was reassigned to the Everblades a couple of weeks later.
Tuma had two great assists in our second game of the season. He has played in every game so far this season, and has racked up over 30 PIMs. Total, he has three assists, and 16 SOG. He's more physical, which we dearly need, and finishes most of his checks. All in all, I'm glad we have both of them on our team...

Sure thing Acad. ;) Everblade fans, you're all very much welcomed to drop by and post us your thoughts and opinions (whether they're good or bad) on any of the Florida Panther prospects in this thread (http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=169676). We all love reading updates and reports going down in the farm, so knock your socks off. :)
HORNBYFAN 12-04-2005, 06:58 PM Just a short update on a couple of the prospects for the Florida Panthers...
Lojek got five for fighting in last night's game. I have never seen him drop the gloves like that before. Although his opponent Lane Manson (6'9) got the best of Lojek (6'4)-I give him props for bravery.
Last night was the first game for Dustin Johner who flew in on the red eye from Las Vegas to Ft. Myers and then went straight to the rink to practice. He is a very fast skater, and picked up two assists for us. Definitely played a part in our 5-2 win over Gwinnett...
HORNBYFAN 12-04-2005, 11:54 PM have you been attending games? what's the word on our goaltending so far?
Hey! Just thought I'd update you with the goaltending. Osaer got the first (hopefully not last) shutout of the season a few weeks ago against Columbia, and was then called up to the Amerks. He played against the Wilkes-Barre Penguins, the Amerks lost 3-2, but he stopped 33 shots (17 in the third period). He's back to us now, he played in Tuesday night's game in South Carolina, we lost. Last night he played and he was pretty good. He looked better than he did Tuesday night for sure. Kowalski looked awesome in net on Sunday night while Osaer was away-I'd say one of his best games that I've ever seen.
BTW, who is it that is Chris Lee's cousin on this board? Just thought I'd let him/her know that he's doing great! 3 goals, 9 assists in 17 games, and has a plus/minus rating of plus 8.

hey.. many thanks, HF. I always appreciate any updates! :) [I've yet to attend a game this season... but that should change soon].
anyway craigers always made me nervous last year.....but nice to hear he's still able to get better.
texsen is chris lee's cuz....
no real shock that lee is doing so well.. I think he had a huge impact last year.
thanks again!

Howdy again y'all!
Thank you for the update. We've been keeping tabs on him via the internet and it looked like he got off to a slow start but picked things up lately.
Any thoughts on what appears to be a slower start than normal for the 'Blades?

Well, all the call-ups we have endured since the beginning of the season didn't help. Two were called up immediately after the first practice that same day. Seemed like we had different lineups for many games. I think we've had something like 10 call-ups (not 100% sure, don't quote me). We've had more consistency in the lineups in the past couple of weeks, with the exception of Estrada being recalled to Lowell. Plus, in the beginning, our power play was greatly lacking. Now between both conferences, we are in 6th place on the power play. Your cuz is keeping it up-15 pts in 19 games!! He scored the game winner for us last night. Also, our team has set a new franchise record: 10 consecutive home wins!!
Here is a link to the game recap video where he is talking about that goal in the lockerroom:http://www.bonitanews.com/mediagalleries/everblades_games/475/ (http://www.bonitanews.com/blogs/blades_blog/)
Click on game videos, then click on Evervblades beat Lynx, 6-4.
Andy Kent and the Bonita News have the most comprehensive 'Blades news, videos, pictures, etc. around. AK is a good guy, sat around with him and a couple other 'Blades bloggers watching the 'Canes V. Kings game at a local sports bar. Him and his staff work really hard on all things 'Blades.
HORNBYFAN 12-14-2005, 09:58 PM TexSen, your cousin Chris, or as his teammates refer to him, "Bruce Lee" scored a goal in tonight's game against Augusta. Everblades won 7-1!!
For those interested in the Panther's prospects:
Dustin Johner got a hat trick-IN THE FIRST PERIOD ALONE! Wouldn't surprise me a bit seeing him called up sometime soon...
Martin Lojek got an assist...
Vince Bellisimo Got a goal in his first game...
Grant McNeil got into a fight coming to the defense of one of our players. He received a major for fighting, and was also the instigator-although that was served by our Brandon Coalter...
Those are a few of the game highlights that I recall...

"Bruce".....that's too funny. Good to see Chris doing well. I'm checking the stats once in a while to see how the Blades are doing. Thanks for the info on the game highlight video.
Can't remember if I mentioned it or not but we got to finally see Chris in a Blades uniform in Beaumont last year, but since the Wildcatters aren't operational we'll be missing out stopping by to say hello. Anyone watched the internet broadcasts of the games at all? Is the picture decent enough to enjoy the broadcast?

When watching the games on B2 it's like watching the games under water most of the time....
HORNBYFAN 12-22-2005, 10:12 PM Hello everyone!
TexSen, Chris (BRUCE) had a great short-handed goal, and the assists by Martin Tuma (Who, by the by, played VERY PHYSICAL tonight), and Daniel Sisca. They were so excited, Chris jumped into Martin's arms, sending Martin straight to the ice. It was great!! Chris had an assist in last night's win as well.
Lojek had two assists last night, Tuma had an assist tonight. Like I said before, Tuma played so well tonight, definitely using the boards to his advantage...
HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!!!!!!!
HORNBYFAN 12-23-2005, 10:59 AM TUMA was called up to Rochester of the AHL...
Race against NINE 12-27-2005, 11:00 AM Thanks for the continuing updates, Hornbyfan.
Hopefully Tuma or Lojek improves enough to get called up to Sunrise this season - we need a more reliable defenseman than Sean Hill with the big club. :D
Good to see Johner doing well - did he get sent down from the Amerks, or called up? I'd thought he'd been with them at some point.

I know this sounds stupid, but id rather have Biron than Hill :D.
With hill you dont notice his mistakes as they are so frequent, but with Biron they are so spectacular its amusing.
Johner got sent down again, i heard he didnt impress with limited ice time. Some sabres/rochester fans were annpyed with Tuma being sent down.

You're welcome Acadmus!
At first, the Panthers acquired JOHNER through a trade with the Flames. So he came from the ECHL LV Wranglers to us. He played five games with us, and was called up to the AHL Amerks in Rochester. He played four games with them, and was sent back to us just two days ago. He played for us last night, he and LOJEK were just called back up to the Amerks today. This will be the second stint for both JOHNER and LOJEK in Rochester this season.
LOJEK has 8 points (2g-6a) in 17 games with us. He played one game with Rochester when he was called up before, and did not tally any points.
JOHNER has 8 points (3g-5a) in six games with us, but did not tally any points in his four games with Rochester.
TUMA was called up to the Amerks for one game last week before being sent back to us. He did get an assist during that game though. Also, in our game against Augusta last night, he hurt his wrist after a hard check from behind in the first period and left the ice. Haven't heard any updates on that. Hope he will not be out long, we need his big checks!
CHRIS LEE, A.K.A "Tank," or "Bruce" as his teammates call him, is on the IR. Hopefully not for long, we need him back as well. He has the most points out of all our D-MEN. Although he is frequently listed as F/D-he is one of the most versatile players we have...
cycle_it 01-27-2006, 05:51 PM so...i've been a horrible blades fan this season!
but i'm finally getting to a game next wednesday....yay

Ahh, so you're going to catch the first Idaho game, eh? Hope our slump doesn't continue this week. We've got to get our defense out there to stop Bembridge (60 pts. in 40 games) and McConvey (42 pts in 27 games). Bembridge leads the ECHL not only in goals, but PPG. So either we decrease our stupid penalties, or are PK better be on!
cycle_it 04-15-2006, 06:57 AM looks like they're off to a good start.
cycle_it 05-18-2006, 05:09 PM I suppose this is good news.... though I only got to 4 games this season, so maybe it's time for a change.. ? no matter.
The Florida Everblades announced today that the team has signed head coach Gerry Fleming to a two-year contract extension that will run through the 2007-08 season.
Fleming is coming off his fifth with the Everblades bench and helped lead the team to a 48-20-4 record for 100 points in this past season. The Montreal, Quebec native started with the team in 2001-02 and has guided the Everblades to a 199-115-46 record.
