The homepage of the new BCHL Website is up. :handclap:

The rest of the website is in the process of being put online at the moment, so the homepage is all that is up right now, but I would expect it all to be up by puckdrop tonight (7:00pm).

EDIT:
Funny...as soon as I post this, the BCHL takes the homepage offline. I guess it was just a test to see if it worked.

Wow. Powell River is even grosser this year then they were last year. We we're up 2-0. Then after the 5th time of our goalie being ran, it was 2-2. Then 3-2 with 0.08 left in the second. Then we couldn't buy a goal in the 3rd. Got good bounces, at least 2-4 good chances. Oh well.

Some great hits thrown on the ice by our guys. Good to see as we have a smaller team this year. Didn't look like it tonight though.

I just find it funny that a 14 year-old bantam goaltender who will try to play in the BCHL when his time comes, is already criticizing a BCHL team's goaltending with a questionable attitude.

To Quesnel:

Andrew Braithwaite

To Alberni Valley:

Hallo Guys,
I heard that David LeNeveu did great in the only game he played with the Phoenix Coyotes at the Rookie Tournament.
He made 37 saves and recorded a shutout!!!
I'm really happy to see a player out of the BCHL do so well!
I wish him to do well in school and in the NCAA, and then get a good NHL contract!

Alberni and Quesnel have obviously come to the agreement for the trade, and have likely sent the papers to the league office. However, until somebody from the league approves the trade (which we will know from when we see it on the BCHL website), it is not yet official.

It is possible that the deal could've been made last night. I mean, it could've happened during the Quesnel game, and Brathwaite simply was told shortly there after, and the Dickson was told after he came off the ice....because like you said, it hadn't been made official yet right...so Dickson was still ok to play with the Mills

Loooooong night in PG tonight.

Home opener for the Kings...the given light show took place, but this building is 50 years old, and the lights take forever to get back on (I don't see why they bother with the light show because of that). Tonight, one light wouldn't come back on....after about 10 minutes, it finally started to light up, but as it did, the light beside it blew out. We ended up with a 35 minute delay because of one ****ing light.

Not only that, but the game was so damn slow. The 1st period took 35 minutes to complete after the delay. The game was slated to start at 7:30, and the first period was done at around 8:40.

Then after the game, I got my crash course on the restricted area of the website and how to enter the game details/stats.

Sorry Canadian Chris...I don't think you will be getting the password because frankly, you don't need it. ;) All it is used for, is each team to enter stats after games. What used to be restricted (team stats) is now free.

I just walked in the door at about 11:40....and my 8-hour officiating clinic starts at 8:30am.

Anyway, here are tonight's BCHL scores: http://www.bchl.bc.ca/latest_scores.cfm?leagueid=2393&clientid=1413&link=BCHL

Wow. What a great game tonight. Clips took the Bulldogs 7-3. Great game for both sides.

Highlight of the night, easily, when Tidball & Laidlaw lined up after a goal. Puck drops, Tidball drops his stick & gloves, and Laidlaw just skates off into the play. Funniest thing I've seen in awhile. Tidball wasn't too happy, the crowd was f-ing loud & loving it.

Kushniruk with the 1st star. 2 goals & an assist. Although his 2nd goal went off his chest. New-comer Mulock with the 2nd star. Great game for him. He is a beauty & will be unreal this season.

2nd part of home-and-home tomorrow night in Alberni. Not gonna make the trip. Only single standing room left. I'll listen to it on the radio.

Ya, that's Frede, he is an 84 that played Juvenile hockey last year and then got screwed over by Harvey in the Wack at their camp.

A lot to teams have been calling him, but I think Port Alberni offered him the most icetime so he went there.

Wait til Chilliwack comes to town, Frede will go with Emmerson, whose also 6'7 and pulled out a clump of Frede's hair in a fight at Chief's camp.

Victoria won last night's game in the 2nd period. It was your textbook one team coming out flat and the other coming out flying.

The game itself was somewhat boring. Other than a 10-minute span in the 2nd, there wasn't much intensity.

I was kinda pissed off when Matt Kerr got kicked out for Checking From Behind early in the 2nd though. He played here last season and was the laziest MF I have ever seen...and a ***** too. I was hoping a guy like Loney or Martens would have kicked his ass...but as soon as they started picking on Kerr, he went and smoked one of PG's rookies from behind. Methinks he knew he was gonna get dummied so he did something to get gassed.

Kerr is about the only guy in the league who Tidball can take (:p )...if Tidball puts Kerr 6 feet under by season's end, I'll give him some respect. ;)

What are the fight/suspension rules regarding fights in the third period? I vaguely remember something last year about if there were more than 2? fights in the last 10 mins of the third, the coach would receive a game suspension for each additional fight...
However, since Bestwick was kicked out before this line brawl erupted, his assistant SHOULD be receiving the game suspensions, correct?

Better make it a sympathetic one. He didn't go a great job.

After the game we got to spend an hour in Duncan emergency to get pain killers for Engele after the linesman stepped on his hand & took off a portion of the top of his middle finger & his nail.

The guys are already planning for next game vs. Cowichan (Oct. 18), some of them want to kill a couple of the COW guys. Didn't sound like they were kidding. Frank is going to be a target next game for sure though.

I chatted with the commissioner tonight (he was up here) about it. He said that according to his conversations with my cousin, that game was going to get out of hand no matter what he called or did not call. I'm not saying he didn't have an off-night because I didn't see it, and I haven't talked to him yet...but the brawl wasn't his fault.

And apparently, 100 PIMs weren't even recorded on the internet last night, so he had about 400 PIMs in that game.

Some notes from the Alberni Valley games this weekend in Salmon Arm and Vernon.

First, I thought that they would be in trouble after getting hammered in Trail on Friday, but Fagnan bounced back in a big way and stole both games.

Milford made his Bulldogs debut and got better as the weekend went on. He seemed very mistake-prone early in Salmon Arm, but settled down. Likes to skate the puck and jump up in the play. Set up the OT winner in Vernon, by going end to end, before dishing it off. Played PK and PP regularly.

Krantz, Watkins, Brocklehurst, Guiguet, Dickson, Storey, Ruel, Timberlake, Scali all looked good this weekend.

Riddell and Ardelan both played poorly.

All in all, a good effort to steal two games from a couple of the better interior teams. Not only that, but they had to overcome some terrible reffing in Vernon. (check the boxscore)

I went to see Frede, who only dressed in the Vernon as a forward because Richardson got hurt and once again, at the beginning of the year, refs are told to crack down on the "checking to the head". Frede(6'8) hits Festerling(5'6) clean and gets a 10. The refs really hammered bigger players with this one at the beginning of last year, too.

You can always tell what they are stressing at referee clinics, because they crack down on it hard for a couple months and then slowly forget about it.

We won't see half as many check to the head penalties after Christmas. Oh well, enough of my ramblings.

What the hell does the boxscore have to do with anything? Despite the common misconception...it is not a referee's job to keep the powerplays even.

HUGE news from the Clippers today:
--

David Prescesky makes career change

The Nanaimo Clippers Junior A Hockey Club members of the British Columbia Junior A Hockey League wish to announce the resignation effective Monday October 20 of long time Manager of Business Development David Prescesky.

Prescesky a graduate of Malaspina University-College with a Bachelor degree in Tourism Management has been an integral part of the Clipper resurgence to prominence both on and off the ice. During his tenure the Clippers have grown their success at the box office leading the BCHL in attendance averaging over 2400 spectators per game with a season ticket base of 1400. Prescesky has been instrumental in promoting the local team within the community generating unprecedented corporate partnerships while enhancing the teams image through countless volunteer activities coordinated with agencies ranging from the Boys and Girls Club, Malaspina University, Salvation Army, Heart and Stroke Foundation and the RCMP P.R.I.D.E program to name a few.

General Manager Bill Bestwick commented, “David has been a model employee with a deep sense of loyalty to our organization. David has represented this team and league with the utmost integrity and has continually set the standard for others to aspire. David will be sorely missed for his genuine passion for the sport, professional approach and dedication as an ambassador for our community.” As well noted Bestwick, “David was instrumental in delivering the finest BCHL All Star Extravaganza in Nanaimo in 2002, a bench mark for all other hosts to match.”

Prescesky has accepted a Territory Manager position with Labatt’s of Canada serving Central Vancouver Island where David will continue to reside in Nanaimo with his lovely new wife Allyson. The entire Clipper organization extends our sincere best wishes to David for happiness and success in his new role and challenge.

Wow. This is nuts. David is a great, great guy. He pretty much runs every home game from start to finish. And does colour on the road. Will be interesting to see how smoothly everything runs without David. I'm very glad to have had the opportunity to work with & know David for over a year. He, IMO, was THE best PR guy in the league. And I wish him the best of luck on his new venture. He's only going to go up in his career.

He was under contract to the Clippers this season & next season. So I have to think that Labatt's offered him a hefty hefty contract. And he took it. He was pretty much the sole reason for putting fans in the seats here in Nanaimo. He ran show for the organization, everything from the games & the promotional events.

Van, enough with your stupid, the ref's always right crap. Most junior refs are geeks that aren't good enough to go anywhere in hockey, but hold on to the dream of being in front of fans by putting on the stripes.

I know because I have been reffing for 8 years. I have reffed with many of these guys. I've been offered a couple of times to start lining in Jungle B, but I chose to have a life and not drive all over this province to ref garbage hockey.

It was a terribly reffed game.

You based your argument of bad officiating because one team had a lot more powerplays than the other (were you even at the game?). That does not always equate to bad officiating. And if you were a referee for 8 years, you would know that.

So I guess you quit because you were a rare good referee.

The BCHL is a stepping stone for officials. Most guys doing the league now will have a chance at the WHL sooner or later. How do you think the NHL officials started out?

Thank you, Van for repeating the obvious. I realize that a refs job is not to even out powerplays, but I mentioned the boxscore just as an aside.

The game was horribly officiated by some bald old buzzard, who has no shot at ever going anywhere, and who is only out there to get off on stealing the spotlight that deserves to be on the kids.

In the third period, the flow of the game started to pick up, and he must of got fed up with all the attention the kids were receiving for their effort, so he started pulling bogus penalties out of his ass. He had no concept of game management, and he ultimately turned the game into a stinker. How are these guys supposed to get into the game, when there is only a couple of shifts between powerplays.

Two terrible delay of game penalties and a phantom charge were the highlight of this chump's night. On one delay of game, Guiguet got knocked down in the corner and was on all fours. The puck was between his arms and legs, but was clearly not even touching him. He was being held down and consequently received a delay of game, so stripes could take his game sheet back to his supervisor and impress him for calling delay of game, like he was told to.

Now, I know what you're thinking. You can't let obvious penalties go just because the game is flowing well.

First of all, it's obvious they're telling all you referee's to clamp down on delay of game penalties. But that doesn't mean you should call as many as you can for the first couple weeks to impress your supervisor, only to let them fall to the wayside in a couple of months. Every year, at the beginning of the season, there are a couple certain penalties, that are called way too much.

Yes, some officials use the BCHL as a stepping stone to the show, but mostly it is a stage for all you drama queens to ref in front of a bunch of fans.

There are some BRUTAL refs in the BCHL, who are going absolutely nowhere, but love driving all over to ref in front of a bunch of fans. What most of these guys need to realize is that the fans are not there to see them. If they would check their egos at their door, they might actually ref a decent game now and again.

You were partly right, though. The BCHL is a stepping stone for higher leagues, so you have a bunch of yahoos out there trying to get noticed, when they should be trying to blend into the background and let these kids decide the game.

I find it disgusting that you, a referee of 8 years, thinks that officials in the BCHL officiate just for the spotlight. We couldn't care less if there are 2,000 or 2 fans in the stands. Other than this, your post is not worthy of a response.

Anything else can be sent to me via PM. I won't let this debate ruin the BCHL thread.

I'm glad they got blown out, makes them realize they just can't trot into a building and expect to win all the time.

Doesn't look like the goalies had that great of a game either, although I can't say that because I didn't see it, might have been just a poor lazy game by the team.

And Chilliwack is still a good team, they weren't expected to win the league, not even the division by alot of people so it is a fairly good start.

Although they don't have all the four lines scoring like they have in the past.

Last night's game was definitely a lazy team effort for Chilliwack. The goaltenders weren't giving up poor goals..the Spruce Kings earned them all. I think it is easy to assume that Chilliwack came in thinking they had an easy win in Prince George, and got slapped in the face.

Oh boy. Yes, Millsy played here last year. And although he didn't billet with us, he practically lived at our house. He's a great guy.

Throughout the entire season, him & coach/GM Bill Bestwick did not get along at all. Jason pretty much shut it down during the playoffs, since he had no urge to play for Bill. In the summer, he said he was trying out for a Dub team. But it was pretty much just a lure for the other BCHL teams to pick him up. And SA did. He still wants to come back to Nanaimo, but not as long as Bestwick is here.

As far as a player, he is more of a hot/cold player. He can tear it up for like 4-5 pts in a game, then nothing the next game. Not the most consistent player, but can't put up numbers.

First question, I was wondering when the picks for the All-Star game in
January will be announced. I know "balloting" began Nov.10th, but I
can't find any other information anywhere about when they will
announce it.

I did find however, on the Coquitlam page, that it says that there
will be a combo of "All-Star players, and Top Prospects, who have
not received college commitments" and it then goes on to say that
each team "must have a minimum of 6 players who have not received a
college scholarship." And of course a minimum of one player per team.

So I'm concluding that there will be players who HAVE received
college scholarships at this game as well as those who HAVEN'T,
since they say that there must be a MINIMUM of 6 players without a
scholly...

I thought last year the players were solely those without scholarships, am I right?

traded 5 times? holy cow, isn't there rules against that? A player shouldn't be able to be traded 5 times like that, is the trade deadline over? or will Barnes be traded again?

The trade deadline was Saturday, Jan. 10.

Why would there be rules against trading a player that often? I'm surprised stuff like this doesn't happen more often during deadline week.

...Not to mention that the trade to Crowsnest Pass was reversed (he was technically traded 3 times) because Barnes wouldn't report....I believe Quesnel sent him back to Surrey for the same reason too.

Prince George wins BCAHA nomination for the 2006 Royal Bank Cup.

The Prince George Spruce Kings took a major step towards their goal of hosting the 2006 Royal Bank Cup. BC Hockey League and BC Amateur Hockey informed the Spruce Kings today that Prince George was the BC bid they were endorsing. Prince George and Salmon Arm were both vying for the endorsement, which is required for Hockey Canada to consider a national bid.

Ok, so the trade deadline was Jan.10th, but you can still pick up
free agents after this deadline as long as you have cards left?

The Powell River Kings picked up Chad Phillips after he was released from
Coquitlam, Nanaimo picked up Andrew Penner from the MJHL, and
Victoria picked up Chris Churchhill-Smith from Chilliwack/Penticton
(I don't know which was last). Is there an actual deadline when you
cannot pick up any free agent players, and can only use AP players
to fill the gaps in your roster?

Can anybody tell me where he is now? He was traded from the Salsa to the Eagles at the beginning of the year, then to the Quesnel Millionaires, where is he now?

Cheers,
Lee

You have your transactions a little backwards. ;)

Kitts was traded from Nanaimo to Surrey, then his playing rights were dealt to Quesnel.

Having his rights dealt to Quesnel, and that being the last transaction involving Kitts in the BCHL, I have to assume that he is Quesnel property.

My guess is that Mark Kitts isn't playing hockey right now.

The BCHL Playoff season is now complete.

Congratulations to the Nanaimo Clippers, who won Game 5 of the BCHL Final tonight to defeat the Salmon Arm Silverbacks 4-1 in the championship series.

I haven't seen if there is an official MVP, but if I were to decide, it would be Clippers' 20 year-old Blair Lefebvre, who scored 31 points in Nanaimo's 20 playoff games (league lead), including an incredible 12 points in the 5-game BCHL Final! :handclap:

The Clippers now await the end of the AJHL Final between Grande Prairie and Fort McMurray. Grande Prairie currently leads that series 2-0, which is good news for the Clippers, as Grande Prairie is hosting the 2004 Royal Bank Cup. If they hold on to the lead and win the AJHL, the Clippers will earn a berth into the national championship tournament before having to play for the Doyle Cup.

They gave it to Michael Olson. But I'm with you on B for MVP.

Just got back from Salmon Arm. What a crazy, fun night. The game was awesome. It was close & got nerve-racking at the end. But the boys pulled it out, looked great on the ice. Fans & billets came onto the ice to congratulate the boys & get pictures taken. The fan bus & team bus went for food & drinks at Clips co-owner Reg Henry's restaurant "Kelly O'Bryans" following the game. Then the fan bus headed off just past midnight to Horseshoe Bay. The team bus wasn't far behind. The fan bus caught the 6:30 ferry to Nanaimo, while the team stopped in North Van for breakfast at Matt Mikulic's parents house. Then they caught the 8:30 ferry.

Fans are comin out to congratulate the team when they get back to the arena, and another opportunity tomorrow at the Swiss Chalet to meet the players & the newly acquired piece of hardware.

Congratulations to the entire Clippers organization. Almost a completely new team, with only 4 returning players from last season, and they're the new BCHL Champions!

:handclap: :yo: :handclap: :yo:

PS - I called Blair for the GWG :handclap:

I hope the Clippers don't celebrate too much. They will have more playoff hockey to play within a week. Whether or not Grande Prairie wins the AJHL, they should have their minds set on the Doyle Cup by now.
