I was reading the article about Crosby in this weeks ESPN the Mag, and I noticed that Zach Parise's dad (J.P. Parise) was Crosby's A.D. at the high school (Shattuck St. Mary's in Fairbault, MN) where Crosby played before going to the Q. Apparently Crosby and Zach are pretty good friends. (dreaming now . . .) Parise and Crosby. Hmmm. . .

We would have to do 1 of two things:

A) Be the worst team in the NHL and/or win the draft lottery
B) Be prepared to part with Elias or Brodeur in some kind of deal

I heard if there is not a season then any team has a crack at #1, there is a super lottery.

If we won that... that would be SWEET.

From his website, SidneyCrosbyAuthentic.com (http://www.sidneycrosbyauthentic.com/),

Spent his sophomore year in 2002-03 at Shattuck-St. Mary's prep school in Minnesota where he scored 72 goals in 57 games

Actually, a team must be one of the five worst teams in the standings and either win the lottery or finish with the worst record and have the sixth or higher (7th through 14th) in the lottery of non-playoff teams.

The lottery allows a team to move up four places in the draft. It is impossible to move to #1 for any team ranked beyond fifth worst. The worst team has a one-in-four chance of getting the top pick.

The lottery system is good because it prevents teams from packing it in and cruising to the worst record for the purpose of getting the top pick.

The worst team actually gets a 49% chance to get the top pick.

25% chance for them to win.
24% chance that either the 6th-14th place teams will win the lottery, which also insures the worst team of keeping the top pick
