Gomez + 22 = #3?

According to (N)Everson, the Hawks want Gomez and are willing to part with #3 overall to get him. Think thats a fair deal? I dunno, Spector said on his website, that IF the Devils trade Gomez, they should have a back up plan to sign a #1 center off the UFA market (Petr Nedved anyone?) IF we can sign Nedved, I think that we COULD trade Gomez and acquire #3 overall in this years draft, of course, you remember the last time we drafted 3rd overall he turned out to be pretty damn good :)

That all depends on what else Lou has up his sleeve, if he thinks Parise is ready to step up, or has someone that we don't know about ready to take over, who knows what can happen? Im curious to see who he drafts at 22 if we keep the pick (More than likely), I wonder if it'll be that Polish Frankenstein that Devils Repairman was talking about :dunno:

Scott Gomez is a nice player, but moving from a 'sure thing' (#3) to the land of who knows (#22)??? For a soft guy that won't shoot??? We coulda kept Zhamnov.

Gomez, soft? I don't think so buddy, Gomez is tough and fiesty, something you'd never see Zhamnov do. Gomer has also elevated his defensive game to a new level, he's a complete Devils centerman in my eyes.

Everson is at it again. I guess we'll find out tomorrow. But, if this does go down and Lou takes Cam Barker, then it looks like Lou is in a mini rebuilding state. Or it can also mean that Nieds could be on the way out. For sure it would mean that Madden will be resigned after the draft and Lou also keeps Kozlov, who signs a guy like Conroy who he always liked....It could be very interesting tomorrow. Also, would Lou trade Gomer and Nieds on the same day? :dunno:

:dunno: Zhamnov's a 24 year old that led the league in assists?

:dunno: If you believe the experts, it's a crap shoot after the top 2 picks, so the difference between 3 and 22 might not be much.

:dunno: If we're dumping Gomez because of salary, is Chicago going to take him?

Everson? :dunce:

Wow, the possibility of Conroy never hit me.......he's like Gomer, cept older, it could be true, but I wouldn't count on it. I agree, the experts do say the draft thins out after Ovechkin and Malkin. Anyone up for trading Gomez + 22 for #1? lol

I don't see it happening, but say for example Lou has $3 million budgeted for Gomez.

He could deal Gomez for the #3, and select Cam Barker.

Barker could help ease a possible Niedermayer loss in the future.

Lou could then use the money to sign Craig Conroy or another UFA centerman.

The Devils would be losing a bit of scoring, but Conroy (or someone like him) & Barker (or whoever the Devils would choose) for Gomez wouldn't be a bad move.

"Unless it's the right thing for the team, we don't anticipate trading up this year," Lamoriello said. "We certainly are always optimistic. The amount of preparation by our scouts is second to none. You never know what you'll get drafting 22nd any year, but the players in this draft are going to be playing (in the NHL) at some time, so our responsibility is to get a good player." (http://www.nj.com/devils/ledger/index.ssf?/base/sports-1/1088147426105160.xml)

I know that isn't saying much, but moving Gomez for the third pick in this draft is just ridiculous. Even if Niedermayer is leaving, why lose Gomez for a chance to pick a defenesman who may or may not play with the Devils in the next two seasons? It doesn't make sense. Neverson is such a jackass. He's like that crazy uncle who tells you he has proof that the President is the Anti-Christ.

Since when has Lou revealed what he's going to do, if he was going to make a deal, he certainly wouldn't tell the papers. However, I agree, it WONT happen. I was reading TSN and they said that goalies and defensman are deep in this years draft, so, yeah.

I agree with ya about Lou and the newspapers. I copied that from a reliable source to show the contrast. The Post is so far out in left field with their knowledge and "sources." I haven't read a single thing about Gomez being traded or any trade possibilities in ANY OTHER ONLINE PUBLICATION. Neverson is absolutely out of his gourd.

Having a chance to think about it, Gomer plus the 22nd pick is a lot for Cam Baker.
I can see Gomer alone for the 3rd pick, but not both. Can't see this deal happening. :shakehead

The #3 pick alone isn't worth Gomez. We're talking about the league's youngest #1 center who even after arbitration will have a relatively small paycheck.

How far is Barker from being NHL ready? I ask this because Bouwmeester came into the nhl right after being drafted and I wonder if Barker could do the same.

To clarify, Gomez likes to shoot, he just doesn't have a very good shot. He's been around 200 shots/season since he's been bumped to the 1st line. Amazingly, Gomez had more shots on goal than Peter Bondra this year.

As for the trade proposal.......it'd be nice to have a guy like Barker to be the heir apparant to Stevens/Nieds. It's seemingly easier to find a center capable of Gomez's offense than a top pairing D. That's the only logic I can see here. We'll see how it plays through. Probably won't hold my breath on a trade.

1. Nothing is a sure thing.

2. Soft guy - Incorrect.

3. Won't shoot - Obviously. Do we rip on Adam Oates because he doesn't score thirty goals a year?

Yeah, I was actually astounded by Gomez's shot totals. Not exactly what you would expect from a 15 goal guy.

This trade rumors happen every year with Gomez being mentioned and when I see it happen then I will believe it... But if Gomez finally gets traded then Parise will step up and play for the devils and he will be just amazing... Parise is going to be the real deal and I am looking forward to wearing his jersey next season... :)

No. Just no. The Devils have a team that can run deep into the playoffs right now. Why do they take a step back and go towards youth that can't even step in and help.

Any trade that involves core players going for some prospect is not in the best interests of winning while you can.
