The Mavs are supposedly very high on Podkolzine or they plan on sending it to the Lakers in a deal for Shaq.
leafaholix* 06-23-2004, 06:51 PM I pray to God they take Podkolzine.
That would bump one of the PG's to Toronto.
Chaos 06-23-2004, 07:15 PM I think this is more of an effort to get the Lakers to drop their demand for Dirk. Im betting they plan on offering Nash and the #5 and maybe someone else for Shaq.
go kim johnsson 514 06-23-2004, 07:18 PM a deal for shaq won't happen by tomorrow night. shaq just wants a trade, he never said 'i'll never play for the lakers ever again'
Walzy 06-23-2004, 07:50 PM ESPN also says, the Mavs got Jerry Stackhouse and Christian Laettner in this trade...
i also think, this's maybe for trading for Shaq, now they can offer the #5 overall, Antoine Walker, Bradley/Laettner, Stackhouse/Finley/Howard

Nash is a free agent.

If I'm the Mavs I'd do 5th + Walker + Bradley + Stackhouse/Howard for Shaq. You've gotta keep Finley if your dealing Walker.
But then again if I was the Mavs I would not have dealt Jamison at all.
Leopold Stotch 06-23-2004, 10:19 PM Mark Cuban will not trade any of the big 3. He's publically said so many times. I especially hope he won't trade Finley, or that'd be one of the worst things ever done.
Great deal for the Mavs. Stackhouse will be a great bench player next season. I don't know much about Laettner, but he'll garner some value. Jamison was also expendable. Josh Howard and Marquis Daniels will more than replace him.
I'd like to see the Mavs acquire Shaq, but not at a King's ransom. I wouldn't trade Dirk straight up for Shaq right now, they won't want Nash as he's FA, and I wouldn't trade Finley at all. I'd probably offer 5th overall, Walker, and Laettner. If it doesn't get Shaq, then we keep the pick.

That last offer is a joke. If Dallas wants to play run and gun, while losing in the 2nd round of the playoffs every year, good for them. But I guess that Cuban wants more than that for his team. I don't see him moving Dirk, but Finley could and should be gone if Dallas can get Shaq.
ALso, I think Nash is a RFA with Dallas having matching rights.

If Finley gets traded, and they're rebuilding, I'll lose alot of respect for Cuban. Finley was in Dallas when they really sucked, so it'd be perfect to trade him just when things are looking up.
You may think that offer is a joke, but for some reason, I think the Lakers want to deal Shaq before Kobe hits the FA market.
If the Lakers wants any of the big 3, then the Mavs are better off taking Podkolzine in the draft. Run-and-gun may have got them to early round exits before, but it also got them to one of the best home records in NBA history. They could've won the NBA championship had Dirk not got injured two years ago. They can just as easily do it again.

Acquiring Shaquille O'Neal would be rebuilding?
Look man...you may love Michael Finley. He's a great player, no doubt.
But you are talking about SHAQUILLE F'ING O'NEAL!
How could you possibly say no to any deal that let you keep Nowitzki?
Evilo 06-23-2004, 11:14 PM San Antonio is a better team right now.
The only way Dallas has a shot at beating them is by bringing in the most dominant player in the game.
Shaq is unstoppable, especially if he gets a fresh start I think.
So if all it takes to get a championship is Nowitzki or a package involving Finley or Nash, it should be done.

He's an unrestricted free agent when he declines his 6 million dollar player option.

With Payton back in LA, Nash isn't of any interest to the Lakers.
FYI... that comment only makes sense if Dallas signs Nash this summer. Otherwise, he's an UFA.

Yeah, the thoughts of the Mavs adding Shaq regardless for who, frightens me as a Spurs fan..

good response.. exactly what i was thinking
if you're the mavs and shaq is available to you WITHOUT HAVING TO DEAL NOWITZKI!! theres nothing that prevents this from happening, right there you have by far the most dominating front court (in more ways then one) in the nba, it would be impossible for a team to gaurd against them
a 7 footer who can cominate the outside, a 7 footer who can dominate the paint :amazed:
go kim johnsson 514 06-24-2004, 07:02 AM I don't know how much LA would want Nowitzki since he is not a Center, when they trade Shaq, they will want a big man in the middle back

well the plan is to get that 7'5 russian kid 5th overall and use that as part of bait, with that said, Lakers shouldn't be too picky considering shaq is only tied up for one year and making nearly 30 mil
