Brodeur 06-22-2004, 09:37 PM From Bob McKenzie:
"The Ducks need to shed about $9 million in payroll. Defenceman Ruslan Salei, a restricted free agent who is eligible for arbitration, is likely gone and in high demand throughout the league. The trouble is, in order to get Salei, interested teams are being told they must also take forward Petr Sykora, who earns more than $4 million a year on a long-term deal.
The Ducks may have to eat some of that salary, but they really need to move Sykora to make ends meet."
I dunno, if I were in charge I would move Prospal and a guy like Andy McDonald before I dumped Sykora.

SYKORA BACK TO JERSEY!
Edit: From the same article
Some sources say the Panthers have already dangled former first rounders Jay Bouwmeester and Stephen Weiss, as well as the No. 7 overall pick on Saturday, although Keenan denies Bouwmeester has been part of any trade talks.
Boy, I hope he denied it, if Im the Caps and they're offering big Jay and the 7th overall pick, Im taking it without a shadow of a doubt.

MissionHockey 06-22-2004, 11:04 PM and I give two ***** what you think why? What are you the Hellsempire cheerleading squad?
Why are you so obsessed with the guy?
Im not being a jerk
Could have fooled me.

I agree and he likes to talk his ***** about me but that is OK because I have had enough of the childish posts from him so I am used to it...He likes to start the agruements and the BS here, not me as you can see... But it is not needed here since I am not around that often... :shakehead Good observation there MissionHockey...
I and many other Devils fans would love to see Sykora come back to New Jersey... I would trade Friesen right back to Anaheim for Sykora... Friesen did help in 2003 but was no help in 2004. That is the way his career has been up and down and very inconsistant. I would rather have Sykora...

At least Jeff Friesen plays, which is more than can be said of Sykora when breaks a nail in the Carolina series. I would be shocked if Lou Lamoriello wanted Sykora back. Sykora broke his heart.

Sykora broke his heart.I couldn't agree more. I like Friesen. He is more streaky than Claude Lemieux in terms of scoring goals, but he has amazing speed. Put him on a line with a guy like Parise and give him a guy with a nose for the goal like Langenbruuner, and Friesen is very effective. And yeah, the toughness factor puts this over the top for me. Sykora was great on the A-Line, but he needed Arnott to absorb all the punishment. Let him enjoy his 60-point seasons somewhere other than here.
Jared Ramsden 06-23-2004, 07:53 PM A Salei/Sykora package is very enticing. I would be one who would take Sykora over Fresien. Fresien has that awesome speed, but he is too streaky and goes cold too often. Sykora is a little more consistent, and his overall skill level is better too. If there was a way to get Sykora back, I would do it. We do have the guys capable of being support scorers for Elias and Gomez, but they were nowhere to be found for most of last year. Sykora would fit the bill and then some. And Salei is the exact kind of defenseman the Devils need more of.
DownFromNJ 06-24-2004, 01:24 AM I'd rather have Friesen (at a decreased salary, which I think he'll agree to) over Sykora. I don't want to see Sykora playing with Elias again, because EGG works so damn well. He's more durable, and can produce on the right line. His problem this year was his unstable line. We saw what he could do when both him and Kozlov were playing well together. Friesen-Kozlov-Langs, Friesen-Parise-Langs, Friesen-Parise-Kozlov all would be acceptable combinations for me.
Plus, aren't we trying to get bigger up front? Friesen isn't exactly gritty, but he isn't soft either.
BigBully4 06-24-2004, 10:00 AM If I had the choice between Friesen or Sykora, the choice has to be Sykora, simply based on past seasons and ability. Friesen is much too streaky, while Sykora seems to be a pretty consistent threat to score whenever he is on the ice.
With that said, Sykora does not make a return to NJ anytime soon.

Basically my thoughts as well. Petr is still an awesome winger, and he gets extra points for signing my Devils' jersey as a member of the Ducks with #17 instead of #39.

AGAIN! Another Devils fan hearing the bad rumors and believing them too... :banghead: So blind it is not funny... Lou liked Sykora period. The man told me himself... :shakehead I would not be shocked at all if Sykora cameback to New Jersey. The same BS rumors were about Claude Lemieux and Richer and they cameback so Sykora is welcomed back in New Jersey anytime by Lou "if the deal was right!"
rtafts 06-25-2004, 11:19 PM Well Sykora is one of my favourite players, so obviously I would want him to come back...
