Niedermayer21 06-22-2004, 12:57 PM If he is still there, Mike Green is the logical choice. If someone better slips, Lou will keep the pick or trade up like last year. If he thinks he can get Green with a lower pick, he will trade down and add a player or pick.
I said last year that the only player I wanted in the Draft was Zach Parise. Even if we had the first overall pick, I wanted Zach. I'm sure someone can find that post somewhere.
This year I want Ovechkin, but that is unrealistic. After that, it is between Barker, Andrej Meszaros, Roman Voloshenko, and Green. I'll "settle" for Mike Green.
If Mike Green is not there at #22, who do we take?
Thanks!!!!!! :)
PEli* 06-22-2004, 01:04 PM Valabik, for sure. Green is a great choice two. If I could hope for two guys to be left at 22, those would be the two.
4check22 06-22-2004, 01:28 PM From what I've been reading, there are a ton of guys out there who could be drafted between the 2nd and 5th rounds without much dropoff. I would love to get Green but there are other defensemen I'd like to grab as well. I'm a little intrigued with Mark Fistric (http://www.whl.ca/stats/player.php?id=22721). He just turned 18 and is a behemoth. Then again, he was a -8 on a pretty good vancouver team.
I mentioned Chris Zarb earlier, and I thought I remembered somebody talking about Jim McKenzie (http://www.pointstreak.com/prostats/playerpage.html?playerid=48611&seasonid=258) (not that Jim McKenzie (http://www.nhl.com/lineups/player/8449477.html)) too. There are a lot of guys who could be decent to solid players in the mid-to-late rounds of this draft. Lou will draft the best players available, so we could end up with a truckload of defensemen . . . or very few blueliners. This year more than last year is a total crapshoot.
DownFromNJ 06-22-2004, 01:56 PM Best player available, regardless of position.
Jared Ramsden 06-22-2004, 04:41 PM My second choice for defensmen after Green would be Lyamin. I'm not really that big on Valabik. If the Devils had a second round pick, I'd like to see them sang Dmitri Vorobiev, but I don't think he will make it out of the second round.

I would also like to see us grab Green, especially since he is a right handed shot from the point. I think Rafalski is our only one right now, but I could be wrong.
Ladislav Smid seems to be dropping in some of the mock drafts (I know that doesn't mean much) and would also be a great pickup. I also like the write ups I've seen on Lyamin.
Maybe we can trade with Calgary to move up to the 19th pick since Dallas and Colorado also seem to be in need of D-men. It would really enhance our chances of grabbing Smid or Green. Calgary might do it for our 22nd and our 3rd round pick since they, from what I have read, are looking for forwards, so there is no difference in dropping from 19 to 22, if you believe that Dallas and Colorado are, in fact looking at defense. If you're the Flames why not grab the extra pick? For us, it may mean the difference in getting someone that could be here in 2 years, or grabbing a project.
Jared Ramsden 06-22-2004, 05:33 PM The Flames would not shy away from trading down in the first round to get extra picks seeing as how they only currently have one first day selection.
Jason MacIsaac 06-22-2004, 08:38 PM If we traded our first round pick for two seconds Wharton and Fistric would be two excellent picks. Fistric is just downright mean and physical while Wharton is a great two way defensmen who "will" break out next year. Like I said on other boards I wouldn't mind getting Scott Lehman with a mid round pick. He is nasty, physical and smart as a whip.
Niedermayer21 06-22-2004, 10:17 PM Mike Green is a righty shot, which I believe should raise his stock. Also, he is supposed to be one of the best open-ice hitters among defensemen. And he is offensive. Probably has bad B.O. :joker:
If he is a top open-ice hitter, then you know he has superior balance on his skates. I have not seen one highlight of him, but from all I have read, he is a fine skater. Don't know how fast or how NHL-ready he is.
Has anyone seen him play?
Has anyone seen Wes O'Neill play? I have a feeling he is going to drop like a lead balloon. If he is still around in the third round, I would waste a pick on him. But no higher. Am I wrong about this?
Thanks!!!

He isn't an open ice hitter, he isn't all the big of a hitter avtually. The prospects game was something out of the ordinary to throw a hit like that. Green is still a very nice prospect with huge upside for the team that can crack some more offense out of him
Hellsempire 06-23-2004, 05:02 PM Green would be a good choice since Barker and Ovechkin will be gone already... Fistric would be good too but the Devils need defenseman and players with size... Fistric has size but is more of a fighter than anything... Wharton is like a Niedermayer and a Martin which the Devils do not need. A stay home defenseman would be good along with a big size centerman...
