Padres looking into voiding his contract. This could be a big wasted #1

I didn't like the pick to begin with since the Padres did not have him ranked in their top 3. In an issue of Baseball America prior to the draft, there is a quote I remember from the Padres' head of scouting, on Bush: "We like him, but probably not at #1." The whole issue was money, so in theory Towers saved a few million in an immediate signing bonus to Weaver/Drew/Niemmen which he would then use to help the major league club.

It seemed to be common knowledge around here that Bush had a lot of trouble getting his grades high enough to get into San Diego State and play for Tony Gwynn. Let's just say that SDSU isn't the most selective school in terms of academics. But oh well, not the first 17-18 year old kid to screw up. It's just magnified if you're sports figure.

On a side note, my buddies and I ran into Padres' GM Kevin Towers last Friday night......You'd think a guy driving a fully loaded M5 could do better than a 24 hour taco stand.
