Leaf_Crazy 06-21-2004, 03:38 PM Do Americans hate Canadians so much to never show there best golf player and one of the best in the world on TV? UNLESS he is LEADING... I swear even if Weir was in 2nd place, one behind the leader he would be shown less times than Tiger Woods. Its ridiculous... its getting old... is this not a form of Prejudice / Racism? Indirect as it may be...
Opinions?
Roughneck 06-21-2004, 04:05 PM Americans would rather watch an American than a Canadian.
Same reasons why we show nothing but Weir if we had the chance.
Dave is a Killer 06-21-2004, 04:12 PM Mickelson (1 or 2 strokes off the pace) had a chance to win it all yesterday, that's the sole and only reason that NBC would show him so much yesterday.
go kim johnsson 514 06-21-2004, 04:23 PM This is absolutely not the case. I saw Weir, Els, Vijay, Chopra, etc althroughout the week.

I dont care who I see... I WANT TO SEE THE LEADERS... I dont want to see Tiger Woods at +10... or Some amateur at +17... I want to see the top 5.... constantly...
Fire Sather 06-21-2004, 06:36 PM Canada and Canadians rule.

Perhaps you should be complaining to whoever runs Canada's golf coverage.

What do you expect? Networks cater to the viewing public. Americans want to watch Americans, it's that simple. It has nothing to do with prejudice or racism, especially since Weir is WHITE. You probably don't speak up much when a Canadian network is focusing on the Maureen Drakes of the world, do you?

I want to see the canadians too, I root for Weir behind Mickelson and Davis Love.

You're in the minority. Most Americans, and I would venture to say most American golf fans could care less about Mike Weir. Nothing aginst him personally, or professionally, he's just not American, and as such, doesn't resonate as much.
golfmade 06-21-2004, 08:38 PM Bi*ch bi*ch bi*ch...
What about Allenby, guy was one of the only ones to finish even par on Sunday and I barely saw him on TV.
It must be some huge conspiracy to not show the Canadians and Aussies on the tv eh?
Fire Sather 06-21-2004, 08:47 PM Allenby is a very solid player, hes gunna win the open one day.

He's one of my favorites, the fact he could shoot even par on Sunday on that course with those conditions, wow.

Don't mind me, I'm just sore they pre-empted a huge soccer tournament that comes only once every four years for one of the FOUR golf majors that occur EVERY year

What do you expect? Soccer isn't exactly a major sport in the US, let alone the Euro Cup...

Not at all. But, the American viewing public wants to see the big name players that they are familiar with and guess what??? Weir isn't one of them. So, the Networks are going to cater towards their target audience b/c it makes fiscal sense. It doesn't get more simple than that.
If you are getting angry now, I dont want to see what you will be like when NBC has their coverage of Americans in Athens 2004 (also know as the Olympics)
You have been warned.

Yeah that drove me crazy here too untill I realized I have Fox sports world. :D No plaid wearing morons there :lol
And about Weir's coverage, those networks are all about making dollar. Viewers would rather see Tiger at +10 than wier at-10, so they show tiger. Its just their job to keep as many viewers as possible by showing the big TIGER

This came up on PTI during the French Open when Agassi, Roddick, and the Williams sisters were eliminated earlier on... Kornheiser said something like "who cares about the French Open, there are no more Americans...", then there was a little debate over it with the Wilbon.
Fact is that the average American doesn't want to see non-American athletes on TV... but the true tennis/golf fans in whatever country want to see the best athletes on TV.
