I'm pretty confident he will stay a Devil. I read in the Sporting News his agent would be shocked if he signed with anybody but New Jersey.

There have been a lot of rumors floating around that Madden was near signing a contract, but nothing ever came of it. At least, not yet. The contract was rumored to be between 4 million and 5 million dollars a season, no time was set. I don't think Madden is worth that kind of money, but Lou knows best, I suppose.

I would also be surprised if Madden left NJ. With the market uncertainties, I doubt there are going to be a lot of teams willing to pay John that kind of money. Plus, Madden has a close relationship with a bunch of other Devils players and he and management share the opinion that winning comes first over everything else, they've never clashed - or at least, not publicly.

He pays the guys he thinks are core player well. He offered Holik 8M, but the Rangers offered 9. Stevens and Brodeur both make good money, so does Elias.

No he is not cheap :( and he will most likely sign madden and Niedermayer to big long contracts... Both players are here to stay in New Jersey... :D
