Where would you put 2 *new* franchises in baseball, NBA and NFL (CFL too)

Just a thought that poped up. CFL fans can answer too ;)

These would be my thoughts:

NFL: Toronto (I know there is fan interest, but not too much in the way of ownership), Los Angeles (even though I know there isn't a lot of interest)

NBA: St. Louis (I know people felt robbed when the NBA didn't absorb St. Louis and Kentucky from the ABA) and Kansas City (I know its right across the way, but they got a new arena coming)

MLB: Washington (I think its only a matter of time before we try there again, possibly with the Expos), Tennessee (Memphis or Nashville), not sure which town it was but I saw a AAA all star game on TV and im pretty sure it was in one of these towns, the ball park was major league, for an AAA team, and baseball have some roots in the deep south as well.

CFL: Quebec and Halifax (off the top of my head, without looking at any stats, I would be led to beleive these are the next biggest metroareas in Canada, but I could be wrong living in Philly, just threw this out there ;) )

Thoughts? I may be way off base (espically with my NBA and MLB picks)

*Now while they have a very low population, you move the Roughriders to the NFL, you have an instant success. They are arguably one of the most popular sports teams in the world. If you have doubts, watch a Roughriders.....away game. Especially if it's against a Western division team. Even against teams like Montreal and Toronto, a large portion of the crowd will be Rider Priders. At the Western division playoffs last year at least half the crowd at Winnipeg and Edmonton were Rider fans. It's sort of like Colorado fans chanting "Red Wings Suck" no matter who they're playing, as alot of the Grey Cups feature Rider fans, and the Riders haven't been in the Grey Cup since 1997.

You build a big arena in Saskatoon or Regina for a Roughriders NFL franchise, and you have got yourself a team that will sell-out many of the games, if not all, and a team that will have a very large fan base, despite having only around a million people in all of Saskatchewan(well, if they were in the NFL, they'd also be Canada's team).

Maybe it's the Sask homerism, but I don't think any other Canadian location, other than Toronto maybe, would be better suited for a NFL football team that Saskatchewan.

NFL:Los Angeles,Washington (Not D.C.)
MLB:Virginia,Buffalo(They were highest in minor league attendance, they have a great stadium that is getting even more seats in it to entice MLB...)
NBA:None (Move the Clippers to Alaska)

washington no dc. dude have you ever heard of the seahawks?

btw the nfl will not move to canada. they get hundreds of millions from cbs abc and fox. why would they move to a city that can't be rated by those networks.

On the NFL to Regina/Saskatoon thing, that actually sounds interesting. I have no doubt that they could easily fill a 50-60k stadium. But where would the corporate support and sponsorship come from? That's like the NHL in Halifax. Sure, they'd get 20,000 people a night but there's no chance in hell they get corporate support until the population reaches 750,000-1,000,000 people.

People in Ontario don't take football seriously enough, regardless of the NFL's stance on having a Canadian team.

NFL- Portland
NBA- St. Louis
MLB- Washington DC

I don't think any of the leagues needs anymore franchises anyway, though.

NBA: Anaheim

LA already has two teams, and Anaheim is basically part of LA.

Doesn't St. Louis have first right of refusal for not allowing a MLB team in their territory? (Memphis is their farm team). and yes AutoZone Park is a very nice stadium for a AAA baseball team. The stadium only seats 14,200

to generate interest on another plane by going to another country. they used to have preseason games there and mexico. they could strike a deal with CBC or CTV or TSN to show a Toronto/Canada. the MLB and NBA moved into Canada, and while without huge success, the NFL is almost a whole different venture of sport regarding revenues and such.

On my Madden dynasty, I moved the Colts to Toronto, and the Panthers are moving to Calgary next season :D

i suppose you're right, espically with the stadium. i didn't realize that it didn't seat more.

Hmm, what makes you say that? Yes the Argos don't get great attendance, but A TON of people in southern Ontario go to Buffalo every other week and fill Ralph Wilson Stadium. While I don't think the NFL will actually expand to Canada for at least 10 more years, there is a ton of interest here and people do take football seriously.

Just watch. There are a number of projects on the table for Downtown Halifax and surrounding areas. One includes a new multisport arena that would seat 15,000 plus.

Isn't there some sort of betting rule that would prevent professional sports from being played in Las Vegas?

Go south young men:

NFL: Los Angeles (already in the works I believe).
San Antonio (maybe)
Memphis (maybe)

MLB: Mexico City
Havana (after Castro dies)
Buffalo
Sacramento, (maybe)
San Juan (maybe)

NBA: Charlotte (already in the works I believe...no basketball in NC?)).
St. Louis or KC, (can't believe there isn't a team in either burg)
Pittsburgh, (although if they can't support an NHL franchise...)
Memphis (maybe)

I picked Anaheim mainly for the arena. I don't think they'd have a team there either, as not only are there to LA teams, but two other Cali teams.

No.

The entire Las Vegas area is still way, way too small to be able to support any type of legitimate professional sports team...Buffalo looks like LA in comparison to it.

It's going to happen, so get used to the idea. I have no idea whether it will be successful or not or whether it will make enough money to survive for very long, but "The Powers That Be" in the CFL seem bound and determined to make the CFL a truly coast to coast league by putting a team in Halifax.

I'm almost positive after Montreal gets moved(To D.C.),if there is more expansion to 32 teams or another team is moved,Nashville and Buffalo are the 2 cities that would be considered. They were the top 2 in minor league attendance and I know Dunn Tire Park in Buffalo can be MLB worthy, especially with the seating they are adding.

link-http://www.ballparkreviews.com/buffalo/buffalo.htm

It holds 21,000 and they are adding more seats.I also hear they are extending the walls....Bob Rich(owns Rich Products, was the name of Ralph Wilson Stadium) may try once again to get MLB to Buffalo.

They don't need an NFL team in Memphis because there is one in Nashville, Memphis also aready has an NBA team after they Grizzlies moved out of Vancouver.
