Because of his groin injury this season, he really didn't see alot of action.

Clemmensen played very well, they might just keep him as backup.

Schwab only makes $550,000 a season, so it wouldn't really be about money.

Problem is we need to play Ahonen in 10 or 15 games or he becomes UFA.

Where did you see this? Ahonen was born 2-6-81, which means he'll be 24 by the end of the season. Group VI free agency is currently defined as a player over the age of 26 who has played 3 or more pro seasons and has played less than (in case of a goalie) 28 NHL games.

Unless they re-write the free agent definitions (they might, although the main focus would be group III unrestricted free agents), we basically have to get Ahonen into 28 NHL games within the next 3 years.

I believe that Ari Ahonen is no longer be exempt from waiver.

Also, Scott Clemmensen is an Unrestricted Free-Agent and he will not turn 27 until July 23.

This is Ahonen's last year of exemption from the waiver draft... which means he will probably be backup next season - at the very least, he will be the season following that.

Errr Waiver not UFA...

Still, its a good excuse to make Brodeur rest.

Unfourtunalty Brodeur will still wind up playing 70+ games if there is a full season next year. I'd like to see him play between 62-65 games for once and have him go into the playoffs nice and fresh.

I would like to see Schwab comeback and back up Brodeur but I think he does not... Ahonen has to get some playing time or the Devils could lose him and I wouldn't want to see that happen. As for Clemmensen, he will be with another team come next season...
