Tuggy 06-10-2004, 07:01 PM Well the A's have finally caught the Angels
Can they stay on top or will the Angels get back on top and stay there? Or are the Rangers good enough to compete with them? And the Mariners...oh N/M :joker:
DaMick 06-10-2004, 07:15 PM i like the A's...
always amazes me how much talent this team always seems to have
Though i disagree with the "genius" notion that people tag on Beane, he seems to get the job always done at a bargain rate. :dunno:
PantherboyHTR 06-10-2004, 07:32 PM If the Rangers can get a quality SP to add to their rotation without taking something away from their current roster, then I could see them winning.
But once the Angels get healthy,

Nikkowar 06-11-2004, 12:07 PM I'm an Angels fan,but I'd LOVE to see Texas take it. They've got one hell of a line up,and while there's really no big names, they're doing well with the players that they have
lux_interior 06-11-2004, 12:29 PM If the Angels get healthy and stay healthy they take it. But that's a big "if".
Vanya 06-11-2004, 01:27 PM I like the Angels. I'd consider myself an A's fan, but I'm learning to never underestimate the genius of Mike Scoscia. What he brings out of his team is remarkable...

I would consider Soriano a big name. :teach:

like not having half their team. they just got garret anderson back last night.
Tuggy 06-11-2004, 03:57 PM The Angels have been devastated by key injuries but the A's are no slouch. Don't forget the A's are also without their top hitter for probably another 6 weeks. If the A's pitching remains hot then the race should be good. But IMO it's a 2 horse race, sorry Texas :D
lux_interior 06-11-2004, 05:14 PM like not having half their team. they just got garret anderson back last night.
No kidding. Before two nights ago, of the 8 regulars (including DH, and excluding pitchers) in the opening day lineup, 6 were injured (B. Molina, Erstad, Eckstein, Glaus, Anderson, Salmon). Fortunately Anderson and Salmon are back, as is Eckstein. Molina should be back soon, and Erstad made a rehab start in Salt Lake City. Glaus is likely gone for the year.
lux_interior 06-12-2004, 04:01 PM Glaus just started rehab and may be back before the end of the season as a DH/Pinch Hitter.
Forgot to mention that Mondesi tore his quad, and may be gone for the year. Plus last year's set up guy, Brendan Donnelly, hasn't pitched yet this year, and Percival is on the DL with a torn "Pronator" muscle. Don't know if it's Pronator Teres or Pronator Quadratus.
Anyways, the LA King's luck seems to be infectious.

Leopold Stotch 06-13-2004, 12:40 AM If Glaus comes back before the end of the season, the Angs should take it.
They're apparentley interested in Carlos Beltran, and even though they have Garrett Anderson, they could always use someone like him.
Mondesi's gone, but he wasn't really needed.
It all depends on the health of Vladdy. If he stays healthy, he could take them to high places.
On Glaus, though, I'm not confident he'll make a recovery in time, if at all. How long is Aaron Boone out for? If he can make a recovery before Glaus, he'd be a nice signing. I don't even think Glaus can play third when he gets back, anyway.

Remind me again, how many times have the A's choked in the playoffs?
Tuggy 06-13-2004, 12:50 AM Remind me again, how many times have the A's choked in the playoffs?
Well I can't deny that....at least the A's are competitve every year and make the playoffs. Some poor decisions and bad luck have hurt them in the playoffs, but they have learned from those experiences and are a better team because of it.
Chaos 06-13-2004, 09:14 PM I would consider Soriano a big name. :teach:
I honestly dont expect him to be here by the end of the season. This team(Texas) is overachieving right now, both Hart and Hicks know this, and Hicks is really intent on sticking with the youth. Soriano is 28, and is gonna get a pretty hefty raise in arbitration after this season. Supposedly the Mets are still asking about him, but have balked when names like Reyes or Kazmir come up, and quite frankly, it would probably take both of them to get Soriano.
Tuggy 06-14-2004, 09:08 AM Edit: Not a shot at Harden. I just think he's a better starter.
I agree, I would much rather see Harden as a starter. He has actually outpitched Zito so far this year. But it really hasn't mattered lately who pitches because it seems they score 10 runs every game :D

Im not so sure they are overachieving. I could see saying that 3 weeks or so into the season but not 60 games. I think this team is for real. Will they win the divsion?? No, i dont even think that they will win the wild card spot but i think that they will continue to play like this all year long. Which from what ive seen the past 4 years being in 3rd place is like winning the divison

Outside of Rogers and Drese(who?), our pitching still sucks, which is why I think they will end up somewhere slightly above or below .500 at the end of the season(about 5 games either way).
Shoeverine 06-16-2004, 09:47 PM Mecir = worst reliever ever.
