4check22 06-10-2004, 08:56 PM The NHL Awards Show is on ESPN as I post this. Andrew Raycoft has just won the Calder Trophy and John Tortarella has won the Jack Adams Trophy.
New Jersey Devils have the following finalists/winners:
Martin Brodeur is a finalist for the Vezina and Hart Trophy.
Martin Brodeur will be presented the Jennings Trophy for lowest team GAA
John Madden for Selke Trophy (top defensive forward.)Isn't Nieds up for the Norris?
DevilFisch 06-10-2004, 08:57 PM Niedermayer was also nominated for the Norris, no?
I just put the show on, Kris Draper won the Selke (no big surprise there).
David Puddy 06-10-2004, 09:00 PM Right, right, Scott Niedermayer is a finalist for the Norris Trophy. I am sorry. I think he is the front-runner for the honor and the Devils best chance.
David Puddy 06-10-2004, 09:20 PM First Team All-Stars
G Martin Brodeur, New Jersey
D Zdeno Chara, Ottawa
D Scott Niedermayer, New Jersey
LW Markus Naslund, Vancouver
C Joe Sakic, Colorado
RW Martin St. Louis, Tampa Bay
ratsgirl 06-10-2004, 09:40 PM I didn't think Marty would pull that one off.
Vanya 06-10-2004, 09:40 PM Way to go Marty... That was unexpected.
And why do they have musical guests at these things?!?!
DevilFisch 06-10-2004, 09:40 PM But he did. Martin Brodeur wins the Vezina!
Come on Norris...
Jamie1 06-10-2004, 09:44 PM didn't think he would win it either
David Puddy 06-10-2004, 09:46 PM That's great for Marty. One more and he will match St. Patrick. I too thought Luongo had a chance. I did see the losing record hurting him. The fact that the Professional Hockey Writers' Association also voted him to the First All-Star Team should quiet the naysayers a little bit, or one should hope.
2003-04 Vezina Trophy
2003-04 Jennings Trophy
2003-04 First All-Star Team

Jamie1 06-10-2004, 09:48 PM woohooo niedermayer :handclap:
ratsgirl 06-10-2004, 09:49 PM Wow! This is getting expensive for Lou.
Edit: Nieds needs a haircut.
DevilFisch 06-10-2004, 09:49 PM Scott Neidermayer, complete with a Beatle-esque haircut, with the Norris!
Tonight is a good night for the Devils.
David Puddy 06-10-2004, 09:49 PM Niedermayer wins the Norris. Great!
He thanked Scott Stevens and Ken Daneyko, among others.
Vanya 06-10-2004, 09:50 PM Congrats Scotty Niedermayer!!!!!! WOOHOOO!!!!!!!!
(His price just went up :D )

Tonight is a good night for the Devils.
I'm loving the stylin' 'do!
Damn, he's certainly making sure he isn't forgetting to thank anyone...
Ronnie Bass 06-10-2004, 10:03 PM Great for Scotty!!!
Hey am I the only one that thinks Lou is cringing right now with dollar signs dancing and tormenting him in his head?
Conando 06-10-2004, 10:05 PM I'm loving the stylin' 'do!
Damn, he's certainly making sure he isn't forgetting to thank anyone...
He was making sure to thank everyone in the Jersey organization, because it really SOUNDED like a goodbye speech to me.
DARKSIDE 06-10-2004, 10:08 PM Congratulations Martin and Scott!!
My take on this evening is that : Lou never smiles unless he wins the cup. Nice looking lady with Marty. A Nieds sounded like he was telling Lou farewell for ever. Man, I hope I'm wrong about Nieds.
Jamie1 06-10-2004, 10:14 PM I checked and it looks like it is not going to be repeated
MattNJD 06-10-2004, 10:16 PM Anyone else hear Nieder thank his AGENT? Contract time is here boys and girls, and Norris trophy winners make BIG bucks... what an interesting off season we have...
DevilFisch 06-10-2004, 10:16 PM I caught nearly all of it. All you missed was some speeches, poor attempts at humor, and not one, not two, but at least THREE stupid musical performances.
Devilsfanatic 06-10-2004, 10:23 PM If Nieder is going to be overly selfish, I say, **** him :)
devildan 06-10-2004, 10:24 PM He was making sure to thank everyone in the Jersey organization, because it really SOUNDED like a goodbye speech to me.
Care to explan (didnt see it)
DARKSIDE 06-10-2004, 10:42 PM Maddog, gotta love the guy, he's even intense at award ceremony.

Yes. I believe he was the first person thanked. That's not too good of a thing.
I think Lou was thinking what can he get for Scott Niedermayer before he leaves the Devils. I can only hope that he agrees to play in New Jersey for a few more years
David Puddy 06-10-2004, 11:19 PM Patrik Elias finished third among Left Wings in the All-Star Team voting, getting 171 points to Nashlund's 301 and Kovelchuk's 291. Elias also received 33 points at Center, 5th place to Sacik's 407, and 1 point at Right Wing to St. Louis' 499.
Other Devils receiving votes for the All-Star Teams:
Martin Brodeur 1st among Goalies with 307 points
Scott Niedermayer 1st among Defensemen with 470 points
Scott Gomez 10th among Centers with 8 points
Here are the First and Second All-Star Teams with votes received. (http://www.nhl.com/onthefly/news/2004/06/214180.html)

Elias even got a vote for right wing...what a versatile player
LetsGoDevils 06-11-2004, 01:59 AM My skin was crawling while listening to Nied's speech. When I heard the words "It's been great" I had to think it was over. Will Martin ever be able to fill those shoes? I know he's fresh out of college, but losing someone like Niedermayer would be a disaster.

Lets be honest. buy the time He becomes an unrestricted free agent, there will be a salary cap, and just like the NBA, if he wants big money, only his current team "The Devils" can pay him. He could goto Vancouver but for a ton less money. Nothing to worry about.

Not if the Devils receive five #1 Draft Picks, which they whould if Niedermayer left as a RFA for at least a $5,097,449 salary. That would be almost like the the Eric Lindros trade or, from the NFL, the Cowboys trading Herschel Walker to the Vikings.
RFA Offer........................ Compensation
$1,928,765 - $2,342,071... Two first-round and one second-round choice
$2,342,071..................... Three first-round choices
Each additional $1,377,689. One additional first-rounder up to a maximum of five
Just don't forget that the team still has Lou Lamoriello at the head of hockey operations. I think the man knows what to do. Furthermore, Brian Rafalski moves up to first-pairing RD, and Paul Martin becomes second-pairing RD. Matt DeMarchi would likely then become the third-pairing RD.
DownFromNJ 06-11-2004, 10:53 AM I'd expect if Niedermayer leaves, freeing up salary room, Lou would go after a free agent for the 2nd puckmover spot.
If Niedermayer does leave, it sounds like he has enough loyalty to make Vancouver buy him from the Devils. 5 1st rounders sounds nice, but I'd prefer something like Jovo/Malik or Jovo/Sopel for Nieds.
rtafts 06-11-2004, 11:33 AM Jovo/Naslund :)
NJDraft 06-11-2004, 04:16 PM In the current labor climate, who would send a substancial offer sheet Nieds way?
I can't even remember anything recently:the a35mil to Federov from Carolina, seems ages ago? Maybe Detroit would do it,but in a lockout year,no.
Anyway,I don't doubt that he like to return to BC, but at what price.
Hellsempire 06-11-2004, 10:47 PM Congratulations to Brodeur and Niedermayer for winning the Vezina and the Norris Trophies... Back to back now for Brodeur... I knew all along that Brodeur was going to win and not Luongo... :shakehead Niedermayer as well. The Norris was his a long time ago this season...

I knew all along that Brodeur was going to win and not Luongo... :shakehead Niedermayer as well. The Norris was his a long time ago this season...You have amazed us once again with your gypsy-esque fortune-telling abilities. Wasn't Scott Stevens supposed to return sometime last year though? Hmmm. That must have been somebody else.
MissionHockey 06-12-2004, 11:53 PM One question:
Game 7 of a series and the score is tied going into the third, who would you rather have in goal? luongofan replied with:
Luongo no doubt because he IS the better goalie.
How can you chose a man who hasn't played in a playoff game over another man who had won 3 Stanley Cups and look yourself in the mirror?
