I've watched a couple of games of U21 European finals. A new grey ball with black inserts was used there. Since the first look i didn't like it aesthetically, but the worst was still to come: that ball is a big joke, it looks too light, has a weird behaviour and when strongly shooted right away make unespected and unjustified changes of direction that make the goalkeeper look like a fool..
I guess this same ball will be used in the major event, anyone knows anything on the subject? Any hopes/news it will be susbstituted?
If not, i guess guys like Totti will start shooting 40metres from the goal..nice way to increase scoring (oh better, to make money i guess..) :dunno:

I don't think the ball looks that bad, and yes it is the official ball for the EURO 2004
The problem is not that i don't like how it looks, the problem is the way this ball moves! :banghead:

:dunno: I 've never kicked it
:shakehead
ehm..how can i explain it to you...
you don't need to touch it to realize there is something strange.
All it takes is to compare what you WATCH with what you're used to WATCH.

Yeah the ball goes three ways before hitting the net.
A nightmare for the goalies.

Selling for 130 US Dollars here in the States, those Pakistani school children must be on strike or something. hmm, think I'll save that kind of cash for boots and booze.

Players of the Dutch team have already complained that the ball handles like a brick...

If I remember correctly, David Beckham said that the ball is very accurate. On the other hand some goalie (Toldo?) said that he hates the ball.

The same thing was two years ago with that golden ball they used in the World Cup but it turned out to be just fine.

So I wouldn't be too worried about it. They have propably tested it thousands and thousands of times and are sure that it's better ball than the old ones. I'm definite that the ball won't settle the matches. Let's just hope the refs won't either...

The fact is that Adidas seems to be making his balls lighter and lighter, which means more and more difficult to stop for the keepers. Next world cup will probably use beach balls a la Corner :shakehead
Plus, this ball is ugly. I'm dreaming about old style Tango or Etrusco adidas balls.

I have just the same thoughts.

I don't understand why they couldn't keep the traditional black and white pattern on the ball, and had to replace it with something ugly. Then again leave it to FIFA and co to break what doesn't need fixing, rather than fixing what needs to be fixed...
