Ajax. I love the fact that the team is built around Cruyff. Plus Varela, Krol and Santamaria were excellent picks at #110, #54 and #115 respectively. A balanced team without any glaring weaknesses. Good job DutchLeafsfan! :handclap:

AIK.
I feel his team is solid.
I don't like Liverpool too much.
Rivaldo is too selfish, and I feel there's not an impact player.
Ajax IMO is on the same level as AIK, but I will never vote for a team that has Schumacher so that made the decision for me.

While I'm not saying that my team is better than the other two, I fail to see how you can't spot an 'impact player' between Van Basten, Dalglish, Rivaldo, Charlton and Lozano...

You must have a very strange definition of an 'impact player' than?

I feel there's no Maradona, Pele, Platini, Cruyff, etc... on your team.
That's what I mean by impact players.
Of course in an all time draft, every player is an impact player, but there's no "Star among the star" on your team IMO.

If van Basten is not an impact player nor a superstar, I'd seriously question the fact if you've ever seen him play. Marco van Basten should be included in the "etc" I made bold..

Three very good teams with many players I like. I rather see Brehme play as leftdefender and I'm not familiar with those unknown players from Sweden, so my choice is between Liverpool and Ajax. The Dutchies of Ajax made the difference because I know them very well.

I agree.

Evilo, you're always so excited about the French players and meanwhile you're calling Van Basten not a star among the star ?!?! You must be joking.

Van Basten's a stellar striker, and his goal in Euro 88 was incredible, but he didn't really step up in big national games.

He was completely ineffective in World Cup 1990.

Euro 1992, he again failed to score a single goal in the tournament and missed the penalty in the semi-final shoot out against Denmark.

Friendlies 6 goals in 16 matches
WC Quals 2 goals in 14 matches
WC Finals 0 goals in 4 matches
Euro Quals 11 goals in 15 matches
Euro Finals 5 goals in 9 matches (all goals in Euro 88, none in Euro 1992)

Total 24 goals in 58 matches

When you needed him to be there, he didn't show up, and when you didn't expect anything from him (his best NT performance (Euro '88) is when he showed up with little expectations (the third choice striker)

Uhm Marco was arguably one of the most clutchest strikers of his era. Don't forget to include soccer at the club level too.

Correct, many times he wasn't there with the Dutch team and although he didn't score in Euro 1992, he played a hell of a tournament. The lack of goals with the Dutch team has always annoyed me but he didn't get many chances to shine either. Just one failed WC and two European Championships.

Anyhow, you seem to forget his play at club level because in contrast to the national team he never dissapointed there. I can't think of a striker who was more complete than Marco van Basten, he didn't have any weaknesses.

No. For instance, I think Van Basten will be at Zidane's level when it's said and done (if you want a french comparison).
Dominant player in his era for a couple of years, great superstar.
But he's not at Cruyff, Platini, Pele or Maradona's level IMO.
He's a notch below these guys.
Don't be mistaken, I love Van Basten, but he's not in that "once a generation" category IMO.

But somehow you are mixing Platini's name among those of Pele, Cruijff and Maradonna, the 3 undisputed best players the world of soccer has ever known. Those were always the top 3 and will likely always remain the top 3, then there was quite a drop off to the next tier. Platini was not as great as either of these, you are the first one I see mentioning his name between those 3. It's like putting Bobby Hull among Bobby Orr, Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux.

Evilo

Well it's OK because I think Platini is very close to the other three and very close from Cruyff especially. The dropoff is later IMO.
And Howe doesn't look out of place with Orr, Mario and Gretz IMO... ;)

Okay, I can live with this explanation.

As for Platini...I think he wasn't of the level of Cruijff and Co but definitely one inch below. Very good player.
