[GB] Watkins protected by Bakersfield

Teams in the ECHL can protect upto 20 players that they hold the rights to, not including players with AHL or NHL contracts. Only 4 of these players can be 'veterans' (players with over 288 pro games). Bakersfield chose to protect 15 players. Included in the list are Joe Watkins and ex-Belfast Giant Kevin Riehl.

That's good news for him :) The only goalie as well. Hopefully he can build on this.

Let's hope so. I expect he'll still be back-up next season though, this season's starter, Bendera, had a contract in a higher league so wasn't eligable to be protected. I think another season with a duo of Bendera and Watkins will go well. Maybe Bendera will be called up during the season and Watkins grabs the starting role :)
