So what do you guys think of this new federal hockey league being started by Vancouver business man John Larsen?

FHL (http://www.federalhockeyleague.ca)

It guess one way to discribe it would be a Canadian elite league. They want to give Canadian hockey players who can't make the NHL a place to play pro hockey in Canada, and also to provide a more affordable alternative as well as having teams in citites that would never be awarded an NHL franchise ie North Bay Ontario.

I think it looks like a good idea, it will be a welcome addition should the looming lockout actually occur.

Im all for anyone that supports pro hockey in Canada.

Go Seals!

I just saw this post, and I'm not sure why it's not getting more attention!
When did the FHL concept begin? This is very bizarre...
Anyways, the only fault I see right away is with the Vancouver team. With the Canucks, Giants, the possible founders franchise in the WHA (providing it actually takes off) as well as the numerous BCHL teams in the area, who would possibly go watch these guys?

Personally, I think that this new FHL would have to work with the Junior A leagues in the country as well as the CHL if they really want to be like the European Elite Leagues. I also think that if the WHA actually gets going, that it would seriously detract from this league. I like the idea of having a league where players who can't make the NHL, or any of its minor pro afiliates can go...but I have my doubts about it being successful, especially seeing as how it hasn't really been widely advertised, and it plans on starting its season in October!

Anyways, good read, and very interesting...thanks for the link!

The league seems to be very unorganized to this point, with several ownership/lease agreement issues unresolved, let alone team rosters.

Too bad, as it seems like a good concept, with better likelihood of long term survival than the WHA.

To say the least. Considering the original plan was to have this league under way last season with 10 teams across the country. They even had the evaluation camps.

Although after looking at the website they do look a hundred times more organized than last year.
