TVanek26* 05-31-2004, 02:34 PM One question,is this a "snake draft"?
KariyaIsGod* 05-31-2004, 04:27 PM Yeah, that's the only fair way to do it.
TVanek26* 06-01-2004, 01:17 PM I think it's been 24 hours....so I'll take Red Grange, all around super star of the Chicago Bears.
KariyaIsGod* 06-01-2004, 01:55 PM Yup, good move Dan. I was actually about to skip him but you did it for me anyways.
As my 3rd overall chocie, I'll take Joe Montana, the best QB ever to play the game.
John Flyers Fan 06-01-2004, 06:28 PM Anyone looking to trade up into this spot in the draft.
I'd like to move down a bit in the first round and up in the second.
My first and 2nd for your first and second.
PM me if interested.
David A. Rainer 06-01-2004, 07:11 PM This thread won't be stickied. We have about 100 different mock draft threads in this forum and I am not going to start stickying them. You guys will just have to make sure you remember about this thread.
Midnight Meat Train 06-01-2004, 07:57 PM hey Kariya,
can you post the posters name by the team name so we can know who we are supposed to pm for their picks or for trades?
it would be easier than going back to the old thread

I actually PM'ed Kariya putting Jim Brown number 1 on my list if I couldn't make the pick, but Red Grange was the most complete player ever in the NFL...impossible to pass up.

A QB can't win it by himself.....defense wins championship....now when you get the best defensive and offensive player way back in Red Grange, now that's a steal, even if you get him with the first pick :D
Brewtus the Beerbarian 06-05-2004, 11:05 PM Anyone else think the number of players being drafted (30 rounds)is way too much?
Kariya referred to the soccer draft as having atleast 30 rounds when it only had 11.
Should be:
QB
RB
WR
TE
OT
OG
C
DE
DT
ILB
OLB

Brewtus the Beerbarian 06-05-2004, 11:09 PM Red Grange is the worst pick of the first round so far.
I haven't seen him break #47 on any all-time list in my research.
A great running back and defensive end none the less, but you probably could have had him with your 20th pick.
Takkie 06-06-2004, 05:40 AM ugh, John Elway? i can tell JFF isnt a Raiders fan, i'd kill myself before Picking Elway on any team called the Oakland Raiders. i'd rather have had Taylor(Best Linebacker ever) or Rice(Best WR ever) or Payton.

Brewtus the Beerbarian 06-06-2004, 10:12 AM Red Grange was the best player of his era....received the first ever 6 digit contract.
He was a superstar in the 20's, and if this were a pre-war draft, picking him at #2 would be justified. But not in an all-time draft.
in the hall 06-06-2004, 11:51 AM this is ridiculous update the first post would you
i was going to select someone but he was just picked and i agree Johnny U is the steal of the draft, could not believe he fell past the top 5
back to the drawing board....

Jim Brown, HB
Red Grange, HB
Joe Montana, QB

Jerry Rice, WR
Walter Payton, HB
Lawrence Taylor, LB
Johnny Unitus, QB
Dick Butkus, LB
the New York Jets select Dick Butkus, one of the most dominating defensive players ever and a key component for any championship team, an advantage because there are arguably only two ever as dominating on this end

Red Grange was the first football superstar. People came out in massive droves to see him play, and he alone (well, with George Halas at the helm) laid a foundation for football as a viable professional sport. He is the King Kelly of football, minus the boozing, whores, and giant mustache. Selecting him in the 20th round, not the 1st round, would be a travesty.

Regardless, he was a superstar because football was in its early development. He wouldn't even be in the NFL in his prime if he had been born 70 years later.

Based on what? Great players are great players, greatness knows no boundries. Just because someone played 80 years ago does not mean they would not be able to play today. Red Grange played football in the years Babe Ruth played baseball, and no one says that Ruth wouldn't be playing today if he were born 70 years later.

The whole league wouldn't have either....players change with all the training they do know.Red Grange was the most dominating player of all-time and I would love to see a publication that didn't have him in the top 5.....He got paid 300,000 one year which now a days would easily make him the highest paid player.

I've seen many publications that didn't have him in the top 5 let alone the top 50. You show me one that has him in the top 5 cause I can't find one anywhere.
Sporting news' top 100 players of all-time has him at #80.

Have to pick th ebest team possible, reagrdless if their Broncos, Cheifs, Chargers etc.
IMO there are plenty of good RB's, so I'd never take a RB first. QB is far more important than WR.
LT was certainly a thought, but in the end I'll stick with Elway, who IMO was slightly better than Montana.

Those links don't prove a thing other than he was a great player, which I stated in my first post.
The first link has him ranked #1, but that's a 100 greatest college football players of all-time, I figured this was an all-time NFL draft though, but maybe I'm wrong.
The other links are just profiles and show how great he was in college.
If you do your draft according to that ranking, you'll have picked Herschell Walker, Deion Sanders, Ron Dayne, and Tommy Nobis in the first round before Joe Montana, Jim Brown, Walter Payton, and John Elway.

Ronnie Bass 06-09-2004, 06:45 PM what do people think of the Don Hutson pick?
people werent too friendly about Grange so i wasn't sure how he would measure up.... comments please
I don't where he should have been selected but there is no doubt that after Rice he would have to be the next WR to go. It's a good pick.
Ronnie Bass 06-09-2004, 07:09 PM A bit early to be taking WR's IMO, as they aren't as important as other positions, but Hutson is certainly one of the best WR's of all-time.
But wouldn't use say Rice would be the exception John? I always thought he was maybe one of the top ten if not top five players of all-time.
John Flyers Fan 06-09-2004, 09:00 PM But wouldn't use say Rice would be the exception John? I always thought he was maybe one of the top ten if not top five players of all-time.
I wouldn't draft Rice that high either. Yes, he's the best WR to ever play the game, but WR is one of the least important positionsof the field IMO.
The QB is such the focal point in football.
Then you need players to go chase the QB, and also players to protect your QB.
