Group A:Portugal,Spain
Group B:France,England
Group C:Italy,Denmark
Group D:Holland,Czech Republic
That is how I believe the group stages will end up.
Big upest I guess would be Germany not making it into the quarter finals but I like the Czech Republic's chances

In regards to Germany vs Czech well this could swing anyway. Czech should have enough firepower to beat Germany who don't have any firepower :shakehead but they do have Oliver Kahn who is a difference maker.
Frolov 6'3 05-30-2004, 01:20 PM A Portugal - Spain - Greece - Russia
B France - Suisse - England - Croatia
C Sweden - Denmark - Bulgaria - Italy

My quarterfinal predictions:
1A-2B:
Spain - England
2A-1B
Portugal - France
1C-2D
Sweden - Germany
2C-1D
Italy - The Netherlands
Tricolore#20 05-30-2004, 01:29 PM From each group...
A: Spain, Portugal
B: France, England
C: Italy, Bulgaria
D: Netherlands, Czechs
At the quarterfinals:
Spain vs. England
France vs. Portugal
Italy vs. Czech
Bulgaria vs. Holland
I think Bulgaria will surprise in the group that they are in. I think it is reasonable to expect at least one surprise entry into the final 8, considering the results of recent European competitions.

Correct observation M=D.

Hehe.. actually I did..
No seriously, I expect the Dutch to make it just barely. The Czechs will finish numero uno, the Dutch advance based on goal totals or something crappy like that. And they grow stronger as the tournament goes on, win vs Sweden, then England and eventually lose in the Finals from France, who defeated Italy on penalties in the semi's.
Or so that's what my pool told me..

Germany also has some firepower (Brdaric: 12 goals, Kuranyi: 11 goals, Klose: 10 goals, Podolski: 10 goals, Bobic: 9 goals ), but the Dutch have a better midfield.
At least Germany had enough firepower to beat Belgium, eh.:joker:;)
Kahn had a very weak seaon and is part of the reason, why Bayern didn't do any damage this year. Thank You Olli :lol
Kahn has made several cruical mistakes, since the 2nd Ronaldo goal in the 2002 WC final.
I wouldn't count out Latvia. IMO they could be spoilers.
Therefore I said, bring out Timo Hildebrand. :teach:

Holland has many times the firepower Germany has. From the contenders, the have the least by far IMO. None of the German forwards would have made the cut in Holland, Spain, France and Italy (I don't claim this list to be complete).

Hell, I bet that Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink would actually be the first striker for the German squad, and he didn't even get a call for the Dutch.
Germans should know and fear the Dutch depth at forward with Roy Makaay not even starting. And he's widely considered one of, if not the, top player playing in the Bundesliga...
Strizzi 05-31-2004, 08:00 AM And he's widely considered one of, if not the, top player playing in the Bundesliga...
He's heads and shoulders above any of these 5 German forwards.
Top player of the BL would be a stretch yet: because it's difficult to compare different systems, and because Ailton actually had the most successful season among forwards.

That`s not a beautiful dream...that`s a nightmare. I have no faith in the England team so I fear both Sweden and Denmark will advance.
Go Norway ;)

I thought people from The Netherlands were really anal about calling it Holland??

I always say The Netherlands.
DutchLeafsfan 05-31-2004, 12:04 PM At least Germany had enough firepower to beat Belgium, eh.:joker:;)
Then again, the Germans didn't have enough defense to stop the offensive powerhouse that is Rumania ;)

I am from Zuid-Holland anyways, so I don't really care. Still I can imagine how folks from other provinces are somewhat less happy about it...

I don't know about that Klose is pretty good
Strizzi 06-01-2004, 12:54 AM I don't know about that Klose is pretty good
Not good enough for any of these teams. He's a good header, but not particularly dangerous otherwise. He usually puts up tons of goals against weak opponents, but can be completely neutralized by strong defenses. Then his missing quickness an technique start to hurt him.

We will judge at the finish line of next years CL season. Strizzi you know that Klose will join Werder Bremen?
Everybody...Go on and keep talking the Germans weak...keep on...keep on.
- Kuranyi had offers from Italy (Inter), b4 he re-signed with Stuttgart. BTW Sammer is their new coach.
- Klose had at least one offer from AS Roma.
- I bet, if Podolski plays a good Euro he'll leave the "Carneval Club" :joker: (1.FC Köln) and maybe end up with a club that can buy out his longterm contract.

I knew about all of these things, I hear (and see) quite much about German football here. And I'm not implying that they're "Gurkenkicker", but I stand by my statement that none of them would have been selected for France, Spain, Italy, The Netherlands.
Look at who these teams are leaving at home...
