Who wins Porto or Monaco

Extremely tough to tell, and I like both teams too. I voted Monaco though, because they were the most exciting team so far in this CL.

Voted Monaco because they've been down so many times and still won it's unbelieveable.
It's going to be a tough battle though.
I'm also thinking that with Deschamps' history of winning finals (he played in 5 CL finals, WC final, Euro final, etc...), he'll be the lucky charm.
Morientes also has a lot of experience of these moments.

He can become the first player to win the CL 4 times... :amazed:

Now, who's better, Raul or Morientes?
Would have sounded stupid a year ago.
Not so much now...

Raul is twice the player Morientes will ever be. He just had an off-season, especially compared with Morientes.

Agreed Raul is still the better player. Not that Morientes isn't good though... hehe

I went with Monaco and I'll be cheering for them too, they brought football with a bit more flair than Porto, while still being based on a strong organisation and 'team first attitude'.

By the way, this Carlos Alberto from Porto could become the real deal. If he learns to use his brain he could become a really good player. I like what I've seen from him thus far (with is not much, I don't like watching Porto for some reason, in fact I'm not sure I'll be watching the game tonight...)

I can't wait to watch the game today. I'm going with Monaco.

I'm cheering for Monaco tonight, I voted for them. It was a real fun to watch them play this season. The team is gonna be disbanded, and I think they deserve to win a major title.
I'd say 2-1 Monaco.

I'm hoping for Porto as they've always been my favourite Portugese team.

Oh I know. I would take Raul before Morientes.
But for the first time they're split it's worth noting that Morientes shined with a lesser team , while Raul with a bunch of offensive players around him had an off year.
We'll have to see how it gets next year before saying that Real made a mistake by downplaying Morientes' talent.
Maybe he was a bigger part in Raul's success than first thought?

That has always been a mistake. Morienties has always functioned on a solid level with Real Madrid. It wasn't so much Real Madrid who wanted to sell him but Morientes himself refused to be the 3rd man and wanted to go.

Every topteam needs a good bench. Manchester United had Cole, York, Sheringham and Solksjear in the past and now they have Ruud, Saha, Solskjear (Forlan) and Smith.

I thought I just witnessed the CL champion being crowned? What's the difference between the UEFA Cup and the Champion's League again?

The Champions League is for the...you guessed it, champions. It also includes the best clubs from some of the top leagues in Europe. UEFA Cup is for the 2nd tier teams.

Last year Porto won the UEFA cup, now they've made it to the Champions League final. I would call that progress...though compared to Monaco, it's nothing impressive.

J'espere que cela va etre Monaco. Mais Porto ferait un beau vainqueur. pourvu que ce soit une belle finale!
My guess:
Monaco-Porto:3-2 (Prso)

Are the french teams unlucky or what?
Guily injures and gets out at the 25th minute.

Neither team dominated, but Monaco is down 1-0 at half time.
Time to pull another magic moment out of their hats.
Morientes anyone?

Well game set and match.
Nielsen doesn't whistle a foul at midfield, and bam goal, 2-0.
Maybe I'm just mad at the ref in the heat of the moment, but with the fantom offsides calls that denied a one on one with Baia, it feels bad right now.
Me thinks the refs are ONCE AGAIN not up to the event.

It's really HIGH time the UEFA and FIFA decided to change the way the game is refed.
It's beyond ridiculous that nearly every game, even the most important ones, are decided by a ref mistake.

Their offense was lacking. There were some bad calls by the assisant, especially on the ball to Morientes, but overall Monaco played a bad game imo.

Foul? More like a dive...

But anyways...I thought Monaco stressed to much. Down 1-0 with 30 mins to go...Much can happen. You don`t send everything forward and leave 2 defenders against 3 Porto players... That`s a receipe for disaster.

Best team won, but I was pulling for Monaco. To bad they couldn`t pull through when it mattered most.

Congratulation to Porto, a great team.
They played a perfect final. Collective, hardworking and so efficient.

It did look like Calgary-Tampa of last night: Monaco as Tampa doing far too many wrong decisions, fancy but useless passing, poor crossing and not shooting much on goal and very few scoring chances even if they had plenty of the ball but just couldn't create scoring chances whilst Porto was much more direct, very concentrated on being compact and ready to exploit any opportunity.
The second goal of the game was crucial: Morientes running with the ball towards the goal but getting caught like Modin for the Lightning and the straight counter attack sealing the game with a very composed finish by Iginla-Deco while the defence is rattled.

All Mourinho decisions proved great once again. To play the young brasilian instead of Mc Carty was successful and the decision to substitute him by Alenitchev who provided the second and scored the third was impressive.

Refereing was poor but just can't be used as justification for Monaco's defeat. The hard truth is that Monaco had barely a shoot on target in 90 minutes of football.

Overall i think that Porto won this one with the experience at this level that Monaco was lacking.

Long story short: one of the worst Champions League finals I've ever seen, and some of the blindest linesmen I've ever witnessed. I'm glad that Porto won and I'm glad I didn't tape the match.

ref was very poor tonight but not the reason that monaco lost. Monaco should have easily scored three goals, especially in the second alone there were countless times when there was a better pass available down the wings and they lost the ball poorly in the final third of the pitch. There wasn't a lack of invention but a lack of composure in the final third, none of the Monaco team played very well and Porto got the lucky goal early and punished them with one good move and another opportunistic goal.

I didn't think this was a great football match either to be honest.

congrads FC Porto :handclap:

they are the best portuguese team i've ever seen in my lifetime. i have rarely seen a team with such good defence. they bent a whole lot this game but did not break. monaco's potent attack was stopped by a great team defence. it is such a shame this team will not stay togther much longer as the economics of todays game will rip the players like Deco, McCarthy, Farreira, Carvalho and Maniche.

I hear everyone talk about the ref but you should blame the linesmen. You can overlook one offside situation but THREE times is a shame, the referee can't see this, and it were three clear scoring opportunities. I agree you shouldn't change the game too much but I've always said they must use camera's with wrongly disallowed goals and they must find a solution for these ridiculous offside situations. These days there is too much money and prestige involved to accept human failures.

Meanwhile Blatter in his ivory tower in Geneve is doing nothing. He's against any electronic help in football but he's not afraid to come up with idea to put an end to draws ?!?! Seriously, we should get rid of this guy.

As for the game...Porto was fortunate with two lucky bounces and the 2nd goal was terrible defending from Monaco. Instead of to defend Deco, both Monaco defenders were running towards the goal. Last year the UEFA Cup and now the CL, this can't be coincidence, so FC Porto deserves it though.

I only saw the first 20 minutes but I was so tired I went to bed after that.

Congrats to Porto on a superb season in the CL, they have really been playeing at a very high and consistent level. Monaco would have made a deserving winner as well but there can only be one winner of course.

They stuffed Monaco with some superb pressing.
I'm still bitter at the ref and linesmen, but it might not have been enough.

Business trip. The only computer I had available was a work computer and I don't like using it for posting purposes because of privacy issues. I'm back for a couple of days, but will be away for the most part until late July.
