hopefully in a year or two all of our cheap shots and snide comments will be about games between our teams that really mean something as opposed to "our gm is better than your gm nyah!" :deadhorse

True, and now we have an entire country against us (for the most part) not to mention every single hardcore traditionalist on the continent. I look forward to a ton of "wow, what a bunch of rednecks they are down there" articles in the Calgary press. When they insult one southern NHL team, they insult all of us as far as I'm concerned.

Something you might find interesting, our Coach was asked about any "rivalry" with Florida a few months ago, and he dismissed it outright, saying something along the lines of "Rivalries are built in the playoffs, so this doesn't qualify". Basically he agrees with you, this one's on the fans, I see much more hatred out of our players when we play the 'Canes, truthfully.

As somebody who has family in Calgary, Calgary is much more redneck than Florida.
Calgary = Pinellas Park

I noticed it and dealt with it. ;) I don't appreciate people dissing the fanbase that I'm a proud part of when they have nothing to back it up with.

Yeah I saw that, A few years ago I remember telling my friends that the Lightning could win the cup while the Bucs sign a warm body just for camp and still make the front page news, glad I was wrong.
I'm pretty superstitious around hockey and the "Lightning will strike 16 times" part of the Lightning avatar kinda scared me. Mario Lemieux got be interested in hockey during the late 80s and I followed Pittsburgh for a few years before the Lightning were founded so I figure I would use the avatar I have now since they need all the fans they can get now with the lockout next year.

they were even worse back in 92 and 93 (not to mention 96). there were people talking about how it was going to be the death of the sport blah blah blah. at least now theyve had 10-12 years to get used to expansion, now its mostly just big talk to convince themselves theyre better fans than us.
and besides, everyone knows its mismanagement thats going to be the death of the sport, or at least some of the teams (crossing my fingers that both of our teams are still around for us to argue about when the dust settles :eek: )
