Radek27 05-20-2004, 04:05 PM Lets say the draft plays out like everyone thinks it could/should.
1-WSH- AO
2-Pitt-Malkin
3-Hawks- Olesz
4-Jackets- Barker
5-Yotes- Ladd
6- Rangers are up......................out of whats left what is the best playter available here? Is it Tukonen or Radulov? Or if it plays out like this would the Ranger take Stafford here since they seem to like him?
Prucha73 05-20-2004, 04:07 PM definitely Tukonen, Thelen is very good too, but we need a forward badly.
RangerBlues 05-20-2004, 04:23 PM If those 5 players are gone the rangers will trade down.

I wouldn't mind trading down, as long as we get something valuable for it.
Barnaby 05-20-2004, 04:44 PM I would take Thelan, then use some combo of 2nds, Poti, or Lundmark to move up the Toronto pick to 12-14 with the hopes of someone like Schremp or Radulov falling.
As far as trading down - it makes no sense.... do we need another 2nd rounder? Do we need another mid-level prospect? Take whoever you think is the best player available.
Broadway Brett 05-20-2004, 05:17 PM I don't know, I don't like anyone that is available. I'll turn to my scouts. :D
True Blue 05-20-2004, 05:21 PM Thelen or Schremp. I was saying for a while that with Ovechkin, Malkin, Olesz, Barker, & Ladd gone to go for Schremp, but Thelen stock is rising. As of now, I would say Thelen.
rangers 05-20-2004, 05:26 PM Thelen, Schremp or Radulov

This would be the worst situation for the Rangers to be in. This is why they need to trade up, to ensure they get one of these 5, particulary Olesz, who I am in love with. I think one of these guys falls to us, and I think it will be Olesz.

trading down when you already have a 2nd 1st rounder and 5 2nd rounders makes absolutely ZERO sense...the rangers should be looking to trade up their other picks...if they even consider trading down from #6 then sather is even dumber than he looks

Bacchus 05-20-2004, 07:23 PM Lauri Tukonen. Seems, that a lot of people don't like him. :dunno:
Radek27 05-20-2004, 07:36 PM I'd take Thelen.
Is Thelen's game on the same level as Barker? I assume he is not as offensive. I just don't like the idea of taking a blueliner with that pick unless he is a franchise type guy.............how would u rate him on this list?
Tyutin
Kondrats
Pock
Rachunek
Baranka
Taylor

Thelen definately has the potential to be a stud #1 defenseman in the NHL. He's more raw than Barker, but some people believe he's better. He's a big, tall kid with an immense amount of offensive skills. He holds his own in the defensive zone and has a pretty good mean streak. If he pans out fully, could be a Chris Pronger type defenseman. Kinda like Jessiman, he came out of nowhere and dominated the NCAA as a freshman. The question is whether it was a fluke or whether its something to build on for the future. As for where he would rank with our own guys, I'd put him 2nd, behind Tyutin and ahead of Kondratiev.
I wouldnt have to think twice, I'd take Thelen.
I think he is a little below Barker at the moment, but I think he could be better in the long term. Will he? I don't know.
I will say this for him, I've NEVER seen a 17 year old defenseman come in and play the way he did.
Blueshirt13 05-21-2004, 06:28 AM I would go with Thelen...
In this scenerio, don't suppose there would be a possibility for us to trade the pick to maybe someone like Montreal for one of their top prospects (they are loaded but no room on their roster), and they could use it to draft Thelen or someone who is a few years away from NHL play but has tremendous upside? Reason being we would get a top prospect who proved he is not a one year prospect wonder and is closer if not already set for NHL play.
